09 Fit Window Tint Thread

Hello Im going to tint my windows I have some experience with this so its no big deal but still daunting considering the number and size of windows.
Anyways Im in NH, legal is 35% behind driver NO tint on sides or windshields.
I was thinking 35% or little darker for rears and and maybe 50% for fronts.
Anyone know if the 50% is still noticeable in comparison to the 35% I havnt seen pics of this combo.
And yah definitely need that strip on the windshield though, Love my fit but damn if these aint the worst sun visors out there and that bubble shit is useless for blocking light

On the previous page there was a fit with 50%, look at that.
I am in PA and we can't tint our fronts either (or any windows depending on which law/cop you ask) but I figure 75% on the fronts is safe. It won't do much for looks as it is not very noticeable, but it will block the heat/uv rays.

50% is definitely still noticeable to a cop if the law says no tint.

But your probably right the fact that it still obscures the vision somewhat is what tells you its still tinted.

Measuring the Visible Light Transmission of your window tint can be performed using your iPod Touch or iPhone. A new app available on Apple App Store called 'iTint' can get fairly accurate results if calibrated. You can read details at http://www.hjchome.com/itint.html.

Has anyone used the pre-cut tints available on ebay? Just wondering how it worked out. I bought one earlier this week, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll post back to let you know how it comes out. I figured for $25 I'd give it a shot. If it works, great! If not, small loss.

The internet is your friend for research about the films they use. I am very anal and do too much research. My findings were that any of the major manufactures make many different levels of tint, from the dyed crap that turns purple in a few years, to high end ceramic which will cost more then $500.00.
Other stuff I found,
-tint darkness has little to do with heat rejection
-If you get a "lifetime warranty"make sure it's nation wide and not by the installer
-Metallic film (I had a hybrid installed) does not seem to effect the radio, or my Garmin Gps in my Fit.
-computer cut does not seen to mean much, I watched the guy install the film on my car and he cut everything by hand and it is an amazing job. He's been doing it for 15 years.
-Ask to see some other jobs they have done, or check out some references, there seems to be a lot of tint guys around, and some don't last long. The guy who did mine said there was not much profit in tinting cars (especially Fits too many windows, and Vettes back window), he makes his real money doing houses and office buildings.
- And, and this is huge, it comes off, it's a pain to do but it does come off so you can fix a failed job.

This is going to be interesting:
Summary: California Air Resources Board has implemented a rule requiring new cars (starting in 2012) to have the windows tinted such that they block at least 45% of incident light. Goal is to reduce solar load on the air conditioning system, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
OMG -- my parolee ankle bracelet won't work?
I wonder what happens when you drive one of these California cars in a state that prohibits window tinting?

Summary: California Air Resources Board has implemented a rule requiring new cars (starting in 2012) to have the windows tinted such that they block at least 45% of incident light. Goal is to reduce solar load on the air conditioning system, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
The regulations take effect in 2012, with a three-year phase-in and requires that by 2014 all vehicles prevent 45 percent of the energy from the sun from entering a vehicle and 60 percent by 2016.The regulation applies to all new vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds or less.
Downside: radio-based equipment that's not connected to an external antenna will not work as well, or might not work at all. This includes cell phones, pagers, portable GPS units, electronic toll passes (I-Pass, EZ-Pass), garage door openers, and so on....
They noted that "ankle bracelets for parolees," along with cell phone calls and laptops, "may be adversely affected by the metallic reflective standard" because the signals "must be able to penetrate the glazing in vehicles."

The windshield is clear with only the eyebrow in tint. That eyebrow really helps.
It is an eight piece stainless. The 4 on the B piller are formed a bit on the edges whereas the A and C are flat. At first I did not like them but they grow on you. For the price they better.
We don't have HOV here but he does help me navigate.

Wish you'd posted that a couple of days earlier!
Oh well, only cost me $25 and an hour or two of my time to figure out I don't know squat about window tinting. The product was okay, I just screwed it up.
Took your advice a little too late, and had it done at Alta Mere this weekend. 30% pro-tint all the way 'round for $199 (plus the tip).
I'm happy now.

Just got my Fit tinted.
At first I was really nervous about getting it too dark, so I went with 20% back windows, and 35% rear doors.
That turns out perfectly I think. Although now I'm contemplating getting the front doors done at 40%....
Pics to come...
