and even though myhondawarranty.com is low...

i know that for example when i shop pricing with my contacts for Toyota/Lexus warranties- I can get lower...

so i know it is hard but he could always try any honda dealer and see
if they will agree to beat- myhondawarranty.com

since the best part of negotiation is not being offended by hearing No..
and you will find that one or two dealers who say... you called or emailed
at the right time... YES

Sorry for asking a dumb question but can someone answer this:

what is the warranty that honda gives you when you purchase the car and is the extended warranty added on top of that or just extra coverage?

FitCanada: you now have a total of 5yr/130000km? or is that on top of what honda provides?

thanks

Like mostly all warranties...

Extended Warranties overlap the manufacture warranty...

So if you buy a 5 year extended warranty it is for FIVE TOTAL YEARS- not
8 years.

I got a 7 yr/75k warranty on my Fit Sport MT that I picked up yesterday. But my credit was pretty nasty, and the finance guy said it would help the bank approve it because a lot of times if a car is broken and you have to pay for repairs, you'll pay for the repairs before you'll pay for the car loan, so it makes them happier if you have it. He worked like crazy to get us financing, and I really believe him. I wanted one anyway, but if the bank wanted it too, it was just the extra push to grab it.

yeah if you have a bad FICO Score- i guess you might have to eat the paying of the HIGH Extended Warranty through the dealerships F&I Dept.

even though you have a poor FICO score- at least you have a good car- whatever you do- don't be late in any future payments

To be honest, I don't think that the bank gives a $hit whether or not you have a warranty. That sounds like a rationalization to me. If the bank doesn't think you can repay, they won't give you a loan--how would raising your monthly payment with a warranty make you more likely to pay? If your car breaks and you can't afford to repair it & pay your loan, they'll repo the damn thing. Honda just wants to sell warranties--and there's nothing wrong with that!

I ended up going with a 5yr/100K warranty from the dealer, because he was straight up about saying that if I bought it from him they'd knock a point off of my APR. I knew that Warrantydirect.com (which seemed to be the best online warranty bet) was cheaper, but this way I ended up with a better loan rate and was able to finance it along with the car--a huge help for my tight budget.

The guy was pretty honest with me. He said that he can really do whatever he wants with the price of the warranty, because (at least at his dealership) they have a 'pool' of funds to play with--basically saying that if some idiot walks in a buys a huge warranty on a sport fit w/navi fully loaded without negotiating, it gives him more money to 'play with' and get me a better deal, simply because I asked and they didn't.

I also made them throw in floor mats to seal the deal after all the financing was done. Every little bit helps!

parade

I hate to rain on anyone's parade but if the dealership could make an extra $1000 then that's what greasing the whole transaction. I was blown away when, after a little research, I found out their profit margin could literally be doubled if the buyer blindly purchased the extended warranty.

feddup...

any informed buyer should know the dept's that any new car dealership actually make their PROFITS are in the F&I and Service Dept's.

selling the actual new cars is really no big gain...

and if like some here stated they have low FICO Scores- even higher returns since the buyers- maybe need the car but hopefully not over
extending (since the only reason your FICO Score is low is because of
personal bad credit history)- so F&I makes a bigger killing as part of their negotiation in saying if you want the car- you are going to have to buy
some stuff- that probably a person who has a good or great score- who
not even think of buying from F&I

I spent about 2 minutes in the finance guy's office. I saved for almost 2 years and had a certified check. I'm not into games.

Fun, ain't it.
Mine tried to tell me how much money I could make if I borrowed on the Fit and invested in some stock he recommended. Was there 3 minutes.
Ran into him yesterday and asked him how that stock was doing. His reply " Aw, shut up..." I think he may have fallen for his advice.

that was funny mahout...

yeah whenever I buy cars and I go to the F&I- in all cases there are notes or sometimes a short letter from the GM or Owner- explaining that I am a personal friend and save the sales pitch- but if I did want to buy something- to sell it at not one penny over cost...

I don't mind visiting F&I- it just says- I am one step closer to another new car.

Vaery Simple: Then Why Buy A Honda?

Many people get sucked into the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. By todays standards if your car is Japanese or even Korean if it doesn't make 100K it's a rarity. Not to mention that 9 out of 10 will trade their cars before 100K so it's just a marketing gimmick. Toyota, one of the best, most reliable car companies gices 35K. Why? Because anyone with common sense knows if something is gonna fail it will fail within the first 1000 miles or so. Extended warranties are for suckers OR US car buyers, Ford, GM, etc..

I know myhondawarranty.com will "not" sell their warranties in California- not allowed to.

There were two states that wouldn't allow warranties to be sold other than by the dealership that sold the car. If you go to thge online dealerships that sell the warranties I'll bet their FAQ etc. will fill in these details. My information is dated but I seem to remember something about california.

CA is trying to stop them from selling their warranties to CA Buyers...

So actually temporarily myhondawarranty.com is holding off selling to CA Buyers.

So for most CA Buyers if you want a cheap warranty...

You do not have to buy it from your selling CA dealer but you can shop around any CA Dealership and see how much

Nope. The car's basic warranty lasts 3 years OR 60,000 km (whichever comes first). The "extended warranty" starts when you pick up the car and lasts 5 years/130,000 km so overlaps with the other warranties. In my case, I put on average 28,000 km on my car/year. So with the basic warranty, I'd be out of coverage in about 2 years, 2 months. With my extended warranty, I'm good for about 4 years, 8 months, or in other words I get an extra 2.5 years of full bumper-to-bumper warranty. For $918, it was worth it to me...

As some of you may know that besides posting comments- I also auto broker cars (I deal directly with Automobile Dealerships)...

Well I knew that Honda Care Extended Warranty does not anymore (could change) sell Honda Warranties to California Buyers (Residents)

I did confirm with another source that I have had dealings in the past with and I sent them an email message and here is his reply:

Ken,

The only state we can't sell to, at this time, is Florida. Florida warranties are handled by an insurance company and not Honda.

Minville
