as rubixdimension pointed out ... Not really/necessarily true... most gauges now are indexed so that they just go to the middle position and stay there even as temps go up, until they reach a preset "too hot" temp (like the one that would trigger the idiot light), and then they go to read "Hot" ... by which time it's perhaps too late.

So the light and the "Hot" range on the gauge may be telling you the same thing at the same time. The gauge may not give you any warning beyond what the light would.

Your replying to a post thats about a year old, but yah I agree even when you have an actual gauge they all suck in terms of accuracy.

My Audi A4s tach was always 1-2 seconds behind the engine you could hear the higher revs or hear them drop and you could tell it was just really sluggish.

My Ford Rangers volt gauge has no numbers on it and only ever goes 1/3rd the way up even at 14.5v absolutely useless...

I know but dang it, they haven't improved the function/accuracy of those darn things at all, LOL.
