Boot light always on - car can not lock

Hello guys !

Well my Honda has this strange problem. Recently I found that I could only unlock the car by remote and not lock it . After search I found that the boot light is always on so the ecu determinds that is something open and can not lock the car.
The strange problem is , when I turn ignition on the boot light is shut off and works perfect if I open and close tailgate.
--i check fuses
--- boot switch
--- cables for short

Found nothing !

Please help me if you had same problem !

Thanks !

You're right the car does sense a door or trunk (boot?) not closing tightly, and will not allow the car to lock until all doors and hatch are tightly closed. What did you do to the boot latch to check it? As I remember, to get to the boot's latch, you must take the inside plastic trim cover off to access it.There are some posts on this forum that discuss rusty rear latches and their repair. You might do the search and familiarize yourself with that process.

If you're running your car with the dome light turned off, you might be missing one of your door latches not functioning properly..I suggest you make sure your dome light switch is in the "on" position (not on or off all the time), and open each door, one at a time, and manually work each door switch to make sure each is working properly. Next check the boot switch and make sure it's working properly. Post again with your findings.

IMO, faced with what you describe, my next move if I was facing this situation would be to give the ignition switch some attention because you say that everything works normally when the ignition is on. Grab some wiring diagrams from the online sources shared around here. Study the diagrams for the ignition switch, main relay, and the rear hatch switch. Does the rear hatch switch indicate a door is open by ground out a wire? How else might that happen? These are the questions which would be on my mind while researching.

In cars prior to the push button era, I recall having a couple "in the family" for which I read about (but never experienced) issues with the ignition switch causing all kinds of gremlins. Is there a marginal area near fully off where the problem is fixed?
Wiggle it, move it slowly, shoot some contact cleaner. Are you sure it is mechanically moving fully off like it did prior to the problem? Does it also work properly in the accessory position? (e.g. the radio comes on but not the interior fan or all the warning lights) What happens if you disconnect the connector to the hatch switch - does it think it's open all the time, or closed all the time? If the latter, there's your temporary fix while you troubleshoot.

It might not be the ignition switch, but something to do with one of the main relays.. Just thinking out loud...

This might seem simple, but have you checked to make sure the trunk is actually closing all of the way?

I had the exact same issue, and I could only fix it by slamming the hell out of the trunk. I sprayed a bunch of oil into the latch and the problem went away.

Problem find !

Behind left taillight near about 10cm it has a connector which connects the cables from luggage trunk and the cable from body computer fuse box. While was connected I saw that it started to have corrosion . I open , clean , and connected again . The problem disappears!

I have the same issue and this is how I fixed it.

Symptoms are:
- When locking using remote the indicators flash 3x (normal) but after a while the car horns started honking to the annoyance of neighbors
- The remote started to not work at all. Tail light interior light (left) always on

So I think when the car locks, something caused the tailgate to suddenly indicate as "unlock" and sounded the alarms/horns.

1) I disassembled the latch and tested the latch switch is working normally (pic 1). You need to push the locker all the way as I initially made a wrong diagnosis pushing the latch half way

2. I checked the junction connector on the right side of the boot and see corrosion. Cleaned it using electrical contact cleaner then WD40

3. Finally I checked the rubber lining of the frame and could see that it was pushed up a bit. I refitted it to make sure that the tailgate door can seat perfectly. In fact when the interior boot light was "always on" when I pushed hard on the tailgate it turned off

After all this, the remote locking works perfectly.
