Intermittent Air/Con AC 2011 Fit Sport Manual
Hello everybody, I just bought a 2011 Honda fit for a ridiculously good deal.
I probably took it to California from Indiana, a 7000 mile road trip when done. The car did great, it got amazing fuel economy, and the only problem we had was at the air conditioning became intermittent somewhere around Denver.
i’m a mechanic, but I don’t have the proper equipment to check out air conditioning, I figured some of you might have some good experience.
either way, the air conditioning works great but will randomly cut out, sometimes it won’t come on again for several days, sometimes it comes on again in 10 minutes.
I can’t say that I have swapped the relay, and the radiator cooling fan turns on without fail when the air conditioner is turned on.
I have also fed 12 V directly to the compressor and it kicks on just like it should, I have also verified that the compressor does not have 12 V at the nearest connector when the AC button is on yet the compressor is not running.

On our daughter Fit the AC will work but then cut out. The refrigerant was up to system requirement. I notice that when it cut out the compressor wouldn't engage. Saw a Youtube video by South Main Auto in which a Civic AC will work only some of the time. If you are a mechanic you know that there is an air gap between the front plate and the pulley. If the air gap is too great or the magnetic coil is weak from the heat, it may not draw the front plate onto the pulley. Like in the video I used an impact to remove the front plate and removed the shim thereby decreasing the air gap. That fixed the occasional AC problem.
Hope this helps.
