Keeping the mice out of Cabin Filter
Hi all,
I just wanted to share a solution that I created as a result of small critters in the car. I found a nest in my cabin filter and was interested in not having this happen again.
Issue - critters had eaten through the plastic and cloth on the flap - then nested on top of the filter.
Solution: pull the housing back from where it attaches to the back wall (firewall area) and insert a piece of SS screening smaller than 1/4" x 1/4" (as that is the smallest a critter can get).
Since that time - no critters or nuts in the cabin filter area.
When it warms up a bit, I will be doing this same fix to the '09
Enjoy

I'll check to see if I can put some screen in there.

Hi Bunchgrass,
I also have a 2009 and I have just pulled the covers from the under the wiper blades. I found this opening, which was full of a mouse nest. I am planning on using the same screening only at this point in the air venting system.
Here is a picture of the opening
opening to the air vent in a 2009 fit. planning on covering this with a screen to keep pests out of the car.

Mine is either kept in the garage or real close to it....where the little ground squirrels are afraid to take any chances. I also use a 22 LR with a scope!
