How to fix sloppy steering

Hello everyone,,

My 2010 fit has 125k miles on it and the steering has gotten pretty sloppy. I can turn the wheel a good 4 to 5 inches in either direction before the wheels begin to respond. What should I have my mechanic look at the next time I take it in https://100001.onl/ https://1921681254.mx/ https://happymod.site/?

Take it to your mechanic quick. A number of things could be the problem, but you don't want to lose the steering going down the road. Not safe.

The mechanic should check out the steering rack- especially the tie rod ends.

driving with a bad wheel alignment (meaning they ain't sitting how they're supposed to) can accelerate steering/suspension component wear. Play in turning is not inherent to this car, see Car and Driver's report. She's got fancy awards.

The steering rack and pinion and its associated outer and inner tie rods are the likely cause, but the problem can be exasperated by bad wheel bearings. All super easy to check for and relatively easy to fix, though pricing will vary depending on who solves your problem.
I wouldn't worry too much about the wheel bearings though if you didn't replace original wheels/tires with bigger, heavier assemblies.

This is a high priority service though! getting it resolved can save quite a bit of money by preventing increased wear on associated components.
