2012 Instrument panel cluster
We have a 2012 Fit with only 13k miles. We take great care of it, never drive it hard, and mostly drive it locally.
Well, a few days ago I went to start the car and the speedometer, gas, and rpm gauges were not working at all, and other warning lights like the ABS and Brake were also displayed. We found this to be very odd and concerning. The next day I had a very skilled Technician diagnose the issue. He said the message coming up was: “No communication with instrument panel cluster.” To fully replace costs $1000 +.He even said it was quite unusual given the condition of our Fit and low mileage and even felt bad for us, and therefore didn’t charge me for the diagnostic. He encouraged me to contact Honda because the issue was certainly not caused by anything we did and seemed very likely to be a faulty factory part during the manufacturing of this vehicle. When I called Honda, the rude Rep immediately got on the defensive and said “Honda is not paying for it because the warranty has expired.” I then informed she was jumping to conclusions without any investigation, and that I believed a further investigation into this issue was warranted. All she could say was it will be documented and that I can contact Consumer Advocacy for any further queries regarding the culpability of this issue. So, I was advised to begin a thread to see if any other Fit owners out there have experienced anything similar? Please let me know. I think Honda was at fault here and should be held accountable. My intention is to build a case to prove it. Thank so much.

I'm not sure how Honda will want to investigate an issue with an almost 7 year old car. Regardless of the mileage on the vehicle its got 7-8 years of age of from production date on the 2012 model. Electrical culprit could be from worn battery or low charging system.
Was the issue resolved on its own or it is a permanent issue? If permanent I would say a simple harness got disconnected some where behind the dash something to that matter.

Even if Honda is at fault there's no way in hell you'd get a dime out of them on a 7 year old car problem. It sucks, but it'll save you legal fees to just accept it now.
Start looking into finding a wrecked Fit near you and pull the cluster out yourself. Much cheaper than the $1000 you got quoted. I'm PM-ing you the link to the service manual for the 2nd generation Fit. on page 22-239 you can recreate the diagnostic the technician ran to confirm it's what he says it is. Give the manual a good read, tons of diagnostic help in there.
