I read about road/wind noise in the cabin at highway speeds. Is this true? Is so, how bad is the noise, please list the year of your Fit too. thanks.

 

Yes!

How bad is a spectrum. Are you 23? 54? You like music loud? Soft? Is your prior car a Mercedes s class? Honda del sol?

These things matter.

It is not so bad it will immediately drive you mad. It is better than some subcompacts on sale today. It is not silent at cruise over concrete roads by any means. If you do a ton of high speed commuting, your bigger worry will be that the steering requires you pay attention. It's forgiving but not relaxing.

Im concerned about this. I hope it's something that isnt too annoying, even though I always drive with the music on ( not loud). It seems like there are more cons than pros to buying this car. Im kind of afraid to buy one.

 

At your discretion. Certainly shouldnt purchase if you're uneasy.
The engine is certainly audible when you rev it up, but you're not feeling soundwaves shaking you. A test drive would be a necessity. One thing that separates this car from the herd is this very website and the support an owner can receive through it.

Movin' on, if you're thinking motorcycle, no where near. At idle the car is nearly inaudible. You'll acknowledge the engine when you rev up to 2500rpms + (mind you, cruising speed is 3500). Its a simple hum with minimal bass.

The suspension is on the stiff side, giving the car its sporty handling capabilities, so youll hear bumps. Your choice of tires for the car can greatly affect this though.
A tire shop salesperson could explain it best by just pointing you towards a specific product, but so too (and better) can tirerack.com

Road noise might be a mild irritant on a long drive. Personally, whereas I find the car comfortable, a six hour drive in it is enough for me.

You wont whisper over it while at speed, but you can speak in a normal volume.

So far the grand to-do list for the car is routine stuff plus having your spark plugs replaced and torqued nice and tight. Beyond that, we're testing, tweaking and pampering the little car that could.

Stop reading and go test drive one to see for yourself if this car is too loud for you. Take the freeways and bumpy roads for the test drive. Don't ask the dealer which route to take, tell him where you want to drive.

 

Test drive one and find out for yourself. I didn’t find the noise to be that bad and it’s an economy car so it’s be expected IMO.

I know, you're right!

 

My road noise got much less after I wore out the original Firestones and put on Pirelli P4 Four Seasons Plus. There is the one overpass in own that made a holy racket when driven over with the Firestones, that now makes only a slightly increased amount of noise with the Pirellis.

 

I had mine rustproofed, partly because the extra layer of stuff helps the noise somewhat. I made a cargo area cover partly to hide stuff, partly to keep noise down (you can buy one). It's not like driving a hot rod with straight pipes but not as quiet as my wife's Accord. I've had mine for 10 years (2010 Sport) and never regretted buying it.
