AC only works on max

Hello all,

I'm having some technical troubles searching the forum but my post is simple - my air conditioner doesn't work on setting 1,2 or 3 - only 4. It's a 2011 honda fit sport, and I've never messed with the AC in any way, shape or form. This includes recharging the freon or whatever ACs get recharged with now.

Anyone successfully deal with this before?

Resistor on fan control burns out and only lets you have maximum fan speed. Either you can into the dash (there's a guide somewhere here, I'll try to look) or take it to the dealer. If it were under warranty it would be replaced otherwisw you're on the hook. Not a terribly expensive fix I'd imagine.

Does the fan work on other settings when you use heat or no ac.

If only fastest fan setting works in all cases, then typically the "blower fan resistor pack" is shot. That is typically because the cabin air filter is clogged, fresh air intake is clogged, or fan is damaged. Find the reason resistor pack blew so you don't need to replace it again.

It's endemic of that year of car. Doesn't matter how well or unwell the car is maintained, nearly all 2011's at some point needed the resistor pack replaced.

Another thing to check is the cabin air filter to see if it's clogged or installed in the correct orientation. That will causes similar issues as well.

Any idea why? Defective resistor packs, defective fans, low-quality power supplies, undersized wiring, bad ducting, rainwater ingress?

Defective resistor pack. It's detailed in the TSB number I posted.

Hi...i took the chance of cheaping out since these are non critical vehicle components (to me anyways).....replaced mine with chinese parts and has been fine for 6 months now.

supposedly a faulty motor causes the resistor to fail....so replace both. otherwise you will need another resistor. think of the resistor as a fuse. replace whats blowing it.

Heres mine..

ps...as mentioned above...check/change your blower motor filter behind your glove box while you are at it. restricted airflow causes motor to work harder...thus blow resistor.
