This seems to be the best place for collecting notes like this, so I'll mention a few things about my F90BT self-installation in an 09 Sport that might be helpful to others:

1) Like my auxillary XM radio installation, as discussed here, I ran the GPS antenna wire down through a slit in the rubber wiring boot that feeds the hatch (third) brake light from the left rear body panel (pics here). You can pull out the cover on the inside left that is used to access the left tail-light. Use a coat hanger or other piece of stiff wire to feed the GPS wire down to the access panel. The GPS wire is not terribly long, so I mounted the magnetic receiver just forward of the left hatch hinge, a few inches forward of the rear roofline to leave as much wire available as possible.

I then pulled the adjacent access cover containing the molded grocery hook; it covers the top of the rear shock tower. I ran the GPS wire from the former access over to here, then down inside the trim panel and out to the spare tire well. I enclosed the wire from the shock tower to the roof line in plastic split wiring loom to protect against chafing. Tape around each end of the loom to keep the wire from "unlooming" itself. I used stuff like this (Radio Shack), although mine is more like 3/8 - 1/2 inch, and I think I got it at Lowes.

I fed the wire forward under the bottom edge of the left trim panel, then up to the driver's seat. Note: the GPS wire is not long enough to feed completely along the left side, up under the dash to the headunit. As a result, I crossed over under the driver's seat to the center console, then fed the wire under the edge of that, to up under the dash to the HU. There isn't a lot of spare wire, but there is enough to let you pull/install the headunit with enough slack to access the connectors on the back of the headunit.

2) I have an XM module for mine. I decided to mount it in the rear right, in front of the bulge in the side body panel. I ran those wires from the headunit along the top inside the dash behind the main glovebox. There is a metal brace behind the glovebox that has other wires attached to it, so that seemed like a good place. This also left the inline fuse accessible by dropping the glovebox fully open. I then ran the XM wire bundle down the passenger's side (they are extra long and easily reach the back). I attached the rear ground to the bolt holding the front-right metal tie-down to the body.

3) the sat antenna wire for the XM unit is considerably thinner than that of the GPS, so it allowed an alternate access to the roof: I popped the access panel for the right-rear tail-light and ran the sat wire to there. The tail-light is held on with three nuts, easily removed from within the access panel (don't drop a nut into the body). The tail-light pulls straight back. Note, the wires are still connected, and will hold the assembly up while you work. I fed the sat wire out through the access hole (it will be obvious). You should probably put electrical tape or similar along the edges of that hole so that it won't eventually chafe through the wire. Tape the wire on to the body on both sides of the hole to minimize movement. I then ran the wire to the rubber seal along the hatch, leaving a downward loop to serve as a "drip loop" to keep water from streaming back along the wire into the tail-light. I pushed the wire under the car side of the hatch seal, up to the roof, where I mounted the XM sat antenna behind the main AM/FM antenna.

4) The existing USB wire (for Sport models) is mounted in the upper glove box via a rubber bushing in an approx. one by two inch panel in the side of the box. That panel will pop out. It's hinged towards the back, so pry under the front or front-top edge. This may be easier if you unscrew the upper glovebox lid first (two Phillips screws at the top inner edge). The rubber bushing will pull out of that panel piece, allowing you to remove the USB connector from the panel, and leaving a hole large enough to feed the equivalent connector from the F90BT into the glovebox. The rubber bushing appears to be molded to the Honda USB wire, so I just left that in place. The Honda USB wire also seems to be ziptied to several others behind the dash, so I taped over the exposed end of the USB connector and used a ziptie to secure it to a metal brace inside the dash, next to the glove box, out of sight. I also taped over the headunit end and stuffed it back into the dash to get it out of the way. I fed the Pioneer USB wire along the same metal brace that I used for the XM wires, then into the existing hole in the panel in the upper dash. I personally don't use video on an iPod/iPhone, so I didn't connect any of the video wires.

Picked this up on eBay today. Looking to install a double-din setup soon. I don't know if this is the fit everyone on here has been talking about but it's Metra and I've heard they make the best kit as far as aftermarket color matching and fitment goes.

No problem. Check my paypal account today and I have a tracking # from UPS. Not yet left it's destination. I'll be in vegas all next week until friday (I live in TN so it's far). When I return the package should be here. I'll post up some pics of color similarities. I don't have the headunit yet so I won't be able to confirm fitment till I actually order that. Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I drop the $500.

Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD. I don't need GPS functionality. I already have my Garmin mounted in the car. The 7" touchscreen for iPod functionality and DVD viewings is just too good to pass up.

I don't know why this thing is underlining my post, the underline button is clicked off, oh well.

Ya, I was thinking of getting either that same headunit or the Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD. Still not sure which one would be better

Arrived home from Vegas on Friday to find my Metra kit had arrived while I was gone. Color match is pretty damn near perfect. It comes with a center piece installed for single din installation out of the box. The install instructions say to cut that center piece out for double din installation. It also comes with a snap in black gap filler for the unit surround. Seems pretty well built. Will post up some images tomorrow for everyone to see.

The unit is going to be a fathers day gift so I don't have it yet. Now, I've at least got the metra kit, wire harness and antenna adapter for whenever my wife gets around to ordering the head unit.

Great, thanks! Please do post pics! I'm wondering how this is better than the OEM Honda Navi trim piece... was there any reason why you did NOT get the Honda OEM piece?

I actually did order the OEM Honda Nav Trim piece before this kit became available. I have both at the moment. The upside to the Metra Nav Trim piece is that it comes with the black gap filler piece, which covers the gap in-between the unit and the trim piece. Also, the Metra Nav Trim piece has cutout spots for tabs, allowing the gap filler piece to snap flush into the Metra Nav Trim piece. Using the OEM Nav Trim piece I don't know how the gap filler piece would effectively snap in to fill the gap because it's made for the OEM Honda Nav unit to sit flush with no gap.

Also I purchased the brackets from the Odyssey (saw that someone in another thread successfully used them to mount a double din unit). The Metra kit came with some brackets for double din install, but they seem a bit cheap. The Odyssey brackets are metal and the Metra brackets are plastic. When the unit comes in I guess I'll mix and match the parts I have between the OEM and Metra Kit and see what works best.

I just bought that with a radio from them last week when they came back in stock. It was $25 when buying along with a radio.

F90BT Install in 09 Sport w/ Metra Kit

Just finished installing an F90BT into my 2009 Fit Sport using the new kit from Metra. The fit and finish are excellent, and the included trim piece fills in the gap nicely.

Some notes on the install:

-Bought some nylon dash tools off ebay. They didn't work very well to pry the head unit out. Ended up wrapping the blade of a large flat head screwdriver in electrical tape and prying against the nylon tools (so I didn't ding up the dash any more) to get the factory head unit out. It took quite a bit of force, but eventually it gave way.

-Bought the dash kit along with the wiring harness and antenna harness off ebay as a kit for $59. From what I have been reading on these boards, I was expecting to see a VSS wire in the wiring harness. No dice. Just to make sure I didn't get the wrong one, I counted the wires going into the car side harness and they are exactly the same as the harness I got. I was kinda bummed since the F90BT manual makes such a big deal about having the VSS wire, but not enough that I want to go digging around in any of the ecu wires.

-Hooked up the orange/white "illumination" from the harness to the orange "ILL" wire on the F90. When I turn the lights on the unit dims momentairly, but then goes back to full brightness. Any thoughts on how I might have messed this up? I tried to adjust the brightness with the car lights on an off (thinking it may have two custom levels of brightness), but it had no effect.

EDIT: I was searching for info on this (like I should have done in the first place), apparently you have to bring the built in dimmer down about 3 "notches", then the dimmer kicks in and the brightness goes down.

-I ran the GPS antenna wire under the dash, following the route of the Honda ipod interface wire, and out of the upper glove box. Then I ran along the right side of the upper dash (along the edge of the black plastic bordering with the white/gray part) to the forward most passenger side. I get great reception up there, but I hate the wire sitting out like that. Anybody have any better techniques that don't involve drilling into the dash? Also routed the mic wire this way, then up the a-pillar and over to just left of the rear view mirror. Callers report good sound, and voice recognition works fine.

-Everything else seems to be working perfectly. I hooked up my iPhone 3G (w/ 3.0 software) with no issues. Music and video play flawlessly. No problems charging either (unlike my old Sony unit that only put out the 12v firewire charge). I can also pause the music and listen to Pandora over 3G, which is awesome!

Tanks for the tips and info! Can you PLEASE post several closeup pics of the metra trim? We'd love to see the actual fit and finish up close. Please! and thanks again.

- VSS wire is blue wire of pin #15 (2nd row 3rd pin counting from the left looking at the wire side) on the factory radio power harness. I confirmed it with Crutchfield tech. Installed my Eclipse unit this past weekend. I have not tested it out driving through tunnel yet.
- My GPS mouse is placed under the dash on top of the center vent duct. Signal is excellent. GPS signal passes through plastic just like glass. See this article SCIGN radome project : plastics experiment
- See my install https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...installed.html

Did you see my description in post #62 above? I ran the GPS wire to the back of the car, then out a small slit in the rubber boot that feeds the third brake light in the hatch.

I posted some pics of the trim to a Flickr set (please pardon the blurry cam).

Fit - a set on Flickr

Take a look at mugen666's post re: Canadian Navi (great thread by the way). The trim on mine looks just like that.

@SteveInNC, I saw your post (another good one), and was considering going around the back. I'm thinking that I may want to go that route when/if I put a small sub in the back. How did you run your mic wire?

@vwli, Good thread as well. I will keep that pin/wire in mind for VSS the next time I am back there. Wiring up harnesses is no biggie for me, since if I screw something up I can always get a new one, but tapping factory wires makes me nervous. Is there any other benefit than keeping the nav going through a tunnel? I really like the idea of putting the gps under the dash, I may give that a try this afternoon just for kicks. I'll aso ask where you ran your mic wire?
