Installing ham rig in the GE
#41
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just purchased a CB Radio off eBay. It's a plain jane HF CB radio. Midland 1001Z, to be exact. I'm just getting into this stuff. Got the CB Radio for PA function. I have a 50 ohm dummy load installed just in case I make the mistake of transmitting.
Quick question........ will the Larsen dual band glass mount antenna mentioned in this thread work with what I have?

I don't know of any glass mount antennas that work with CB radio mostly due to the frequency of the signal and size of antennas required for CB.
You will need to look for a regular roof or fender mount antenna setup for the CB.
Hope this helps a little.

Are you looking for a through glass mount antenna or just a glass mount for a normal antenna. I use both on my Fit. There are pics of the glass mount with just the antenna earlier in this thread. That antenna is for my dual band amateur radio. I also have a CB installed in the car and use a Comet RS-720 lip mount and a FireStik II FS3 antenna. I will take a picture of it when I take a break this morning and post it.

Thanks for the quick reply. The feedback scores for the Midland are not as good as the Tram 1198. I found another alternative. It's a Solarcon CB-TG. I sent the company an e-mail to see if the antenna covers the HF band. It's pricier than the other two. We'll see............

Finally found an antenna that actually works. It's the Solarcon CB-TG. I put it on the SWR meter and got readings as low as 1.2 to 1.3. I tuned the antenna to channel 20.
So after all the research and work, I find out that up here in Canada (Wet Coast) nobody is into CB radio, LOL. I go cross border shopping (gas more than anything else) one to two times a week, so I get my fix when south of the border.
It seems everybody is into VHF in my neck of the woods.
