low voltage codes: what v is normal?
When cleaning SRS codes on my '07 Base, I get the SRS light double-flash, then about 1 second later, the SRS light comes-on steady again. Checking the codes, I find that I have three SRS codes for "SRS malfunction or low voltage" (8-1, 8-5, 9-2) and one ABS code for "IGN Voltage" (6-1).
So it sounds like I probably have low voltage. But my voltmeter says I have:
Sounds pretty good to me. Anybody know what voltage the have at any of these conditions, as a reference?
I think I started getting the SRS light after adding a Rostra cruise control module. It shares power from the top fuse (#17 power windows), which doesn't seem like a problem. Is there somewhere closer to the SRS module I should check voltage?
So it sounds like I probably have low voltage. But my voltmeter says I have:
- 12.53 volts: after parked 24 hours
- 12.37 volts with key On
- 11.83 volts, key On, fan on full (4)
- 14.40 volts, engine on
- 14.22 volts, engine on, fan full, AC on, rear defrost on
Sounds pretty good to me. Anybody know what voltage the have at any of these conditions, as a reference?

If there is a poor connection between where the volt meter readings are taken and the codes are measured, then that could explain the difference. A poor electrical connection causes a voltage drop when current is passing (Ohm's Law), and this could explain the different readings. Check the connections you made when fitting the cruise control. (a poor connection could be caused by an undersized wire, not necessarily a bad "connection" per se).

In my experience an old battery will set this code if you begin to crank an engine right away. Try to wait until the airbag idiot light goes away before cranking an engine. The battery has to be checked (under load)
