07 Sport Misfires after spark plug and coil replacement...

Hello!

So, a 2007 Fit Sport (the flappy paddle edition, ~75k miles, assume nothing has ever been replaced) had a misfire and power issue a month or so ago. I read around these very helpful forums, and with the assistance of some wonderful posts, replaced spark plugs and coils for the first time in any car ever.

Between this event and today, the car was used for a regular commute (~13 ish miles per day), a 900 mile round trip to another state, then a second 380 mile mini vacation. On the last return, the engine misfired and hiccuped some. Codes were checked as P0300, P0302, P0303.

Afterwards, it was driven once for the regular commute, and didn't show any power or desire to go beyond 20mph.

I've had a couple of suggestions of replacing fuel injectors, checking valve adjustment.. But I'm very short on time: my ability to fix this is basically if I can procure necessary parts and fix today or tomorrow.

We're on the verge of taking it to the shop. It might be a few hundred bucks to fix, but I've pulled the spark plugs and ignition coils, swapped them around until eliminating my work as being the problem here.

I've seen a few tips about fuel injector cleaning additive, or redlining the engine for a few to clean the injectors.. But my worry, especially with the latter, is potential damage to the engine with it misfiring the way it is.

Any pointers - whether "go to the damn shop" or otherwise - much appreciated. Thanks, and merry July 4.

What brand of coils and what brand of plugs did you use?
In order for repair to last the OEM coils (from Honda dealer) $100 ea and plugs $10 ea should be used. Hitachi coil from Autozone should be closest match to OEM (like silver to gold
I will stay from e-bay or Amazon coils to avoid cheap imitation!!

Rock auto sells the same Hitachi coils that Honda sells for about 190 for 4 of them.
Honda will be glad to take your money.. Since they don't make them just mark them up.

I used these coils and plugs:

ENA New Set of 4 Ignition Coils for 2007 2008 Honda Fit L4 1.5L Compatible with UF-581 C1578 30520-PWC-003 30520-PWC-501 30520PWC003 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FT2TU8C/

Denso (4504) PK20TT Platinum TT Spark Plug, (Pack of 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002M2MMXM/

But as I mentioned, I have moved the plugs and coils around between cylinders and the misfires do not move with the potentially bad equipment, leading me to believe that they aren't the issue. Before I potentially go buying more coils and plugs, why would it be that I can't move the misfire to another cylinder if the problem is coils or plugs?

This is the first avenue I attempted, but I'm struggling to grasp how they could be the problem considering the process of elimination.

Yep, you've got the cheapie coilpacks at $60 for a set of 4. As dwtaylorpdx states above, you want the OEM Hitachis, part number ends 0053. Don't buy the Beck-Arnley or anything else, go with the Hitachi.

I also wouldn't run platinum plugs. You want the Denso (or NGK) Iridiums. Denso IK22 if memory serves.

If you purchase from rockauto.com, both plugs and coilpacks should total around $230-250 with shipping.

X2 on saying you made a mistake using the cheap parts! Long-term, they ain't gonna work.

+++++++++++++

Your engine probably needs a valve adjustment. That's the reason moving the parts around didn't change the symptoms.

That's kind of the answer I was looking for, some opinion on why moving parts didn't move the cylinder problem. Thank you for answering my question!

I haven't seen any guides here for the valve adjustment: are there any? It looks like I could actually do this in an hour or two, but would feel more comfortable with an actual guide for the specific vehicle

Thanks to everyone for chiming in about the part costs. I'm trying to figure out a way to afford them! But having all four cylinders working is my primary goal for right now.

Count on 3 - 4 hours for the valve adjustment the first time. There is a lot of stuff to remove/get out of the way. Fortunately, you won't need any parts like gaskets etc.

SEARCH for DIY procedures here or elsewhere, I found one on a different Forum prior to my first time. Also, search YouTube if you learn by watching.

Edit: found this here

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...clearance.html

It's kinda long though. Happy reading.

Oh, and you WILL need a few dabs of a sensor-safe RTV for the 'corners' of the valve cover.
