2008 Honda Fit Sport Headlight/turn signal switch

My low beams are out, but my high beams work. There was a recall on this and I took it to the dealership a couple years ago to have it replaced. I just recently took it back to the dealership and they said my bulbs were out.
I took it to my mechanic, he replaced the bulbs and the lights still won't come on. He said there is power to all 3 headlight bulb wires. He disconnected the combo switch, grounded the brown/yellow to main headlight relay, then grounded red/white wire combo switch and the lights worked.
He ordered a new switch. Here's the problem, he took the steering wheel covers off, but there isn't enough room to slide the old switch out due to the dashboard on the left side even with the steering wheel all the way up or down. Has anyone had any success replacing the switch?
Any help is appreciated.

Your mechanic should have access to recalls from alldatapro or Mitchell on demand. The recall explains procedure how to the the switch out.
