Rear end "loose" or "floaty" over bumps
I've got a 2007 Sport, and my college-age son just purchased a 2007 Sport as well.
He mentioned that the back end feels loose on bumps. I rode with him to the hardware store today and felt it. On bad expansion joints (common in Michigan) or speed bumps, it feels like the rear gets kicked to the side an inch or so, as well as the expected bump going up. Its somewhat disconcerting, and seems like it could be a safety issue if he hit a bump while cornering.
I assume something is worn or broken in the rear suspension, but haven't had a chance to look yet, as he just got back from school.
Any advice on what to look for? Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks.

the rear roll stiffness is also very very soft in this car as well... do check for worn bushings, but increasing the spring stiffness, adding a rear roll bar, and lower profile tires will all help decrease what you're experiencing...

on my 07 Fit, the rear end moves all over the place on bumpy roads like you mention. I believe it is the rear torsion bar (axle) bushings. The shop I normally go to said they look fine.
I'm getting a suspension shop to look at it for a second opinion.
When I jack up the rear of the Fit and get under it, I can use a pry bar and make the rear axle move back and forth (side to side) about an inch. When I do this, I can see the bushings moving as if (the rubber inside the bushing) are broke. I don't believe the rear bushings should move like this and that is the reason for all the movement in the rear of the vehicle.
I have my next appointment for the axle on Monday and I'll report what I learn then.

I replaced the rear shocks a couple days ago and I notice a significant difference in the floaty rear end. I believe the floaty problem may have been solved by the shock replacement. The right rear shock was not working and so I was just riding on the spring on right rear. I couldn't tell the shock was bad until I removed it and pushed in, pulled out on it. I am still going to have the rear bushings checked but so far so good.
