2008 Sport - How many amps can my USB charger be?
Hi guys,
I know there are many knowledgeable folks here so I'm hoping somebody can answer this question.
I'm in the market for a new USB car charger (to plug into the power accessory/cigarette lighter port) and I want to get one that supplies the most power to my devices (cell phone/iPod) but doesn't blow my fuse.
There are chargers out there that range in amps from 2.1, 3.1 and 4.2.
I tried searching to see if this came up earlier but didn't find anything.
Thanks!

You can get about 10 amps typically from a cig adapter outlet. Some of them are even fused for 20 Amps, or about 220 watts.
IMO, get yourself the biggest one you can. I have a 2.1 A ACC to USB adapter. better to have more than enough amp capacity than not enough. The devices you mentioned are power hungry when in charge mode.

Thanks for the reply, 1985.
I ordered a 4.2amp unit with two inputs (that I assume means each device gets 2.1amps). Based on your reply, I expect it to work out fine. If it doesn't, I'm coming for your low B string.

I bought a Powergen 4.1A USB charger for a tablet head unit project I had going on in my Si before I sold it. Even though the charger is able to charge at 4.1A, the device itself, from what I understand, will determine how many Amps it charges at. Most cell phones are limited at around .5A or up to about .8A or so. I have a 2.1A USB charger for my phone at work and it seems to charge faster than a wall charger, but I have yet to be able to figure out how to know how many Amps are charging my phone.

Haha or my High C string. I play a 6 string bass. Fully customized myself with EMG pickups and electronics. I even once owned a Conklin 7 string bass with a low C# string!
