How long does a Fit battery last?

Just wondering since I bought my Fit used and when the battery went dead on it I installed a 151R in it. But when my local dealer had a sale on the factory batteries I bought one and now I'm wondering how many years I can get out of it? My guess is 4, since it's slightly larger than my motorcycle's battery, which lasts 3 years. I only wish a motorcycle battery would work in the Fit too!

The original battery on my 08 Fit lasted over 4 years.
The replacement is still going strong.

Many here had to replace the OEM battery every year or two. Others (including ours) have lasted a good, long time. (We just replaced our '07s this fall, it was cranking slow. So, SEVEN years.)

One tip to increase battery life is to check the cells every fall. If the electrolyte gets low, the battery will die early.

The Major Pain with the Fit, is that the battery positive terminal needs to be removed to unscrew the caps on two cells, so you need to reset the radio code and do the Idle Learn.

There are many factors with battery life. I got 5 years out of mine and was happy. I would expect 4 - 5 years.

Why do the idle learn if you didn't clean or modify the intake/throttle body?

^^^ Just habit I guess.

I enable the radio with the engine running (charges the battery too...turning the distilled water into electrolyte)

Wow, I spelled "electrolyte" correctly multiple times in the same day without using the spell-checker!

My '08 original battery was going strong. But this upcoming winter was going to be the first one spent outside in the freezing midwest for quite some time, so I replaced it proactively. Nothing like replacing batteries when it's below zero outside. Came to around $75 total for a new 151R from Napa with a bunch of discounts at the end of Nov.

2008 Fit Battery

This coming March the original battery in our 2008 Fit Sport 5-speed will be 7 years old! It has always been connected to a 'Battery Tender' when parked for a week or more while using the other vehicles. I've been using Battery Tenders on our four vehicles for many years and they certainly keep the batteries alive and well, compared to what our neighbors experience during the same periods, with out Battery Tenders involved.

I just replaced my 2008 battery with 94k on it this past month, it was still cranking but just a tad slow and didn't want to get snagged in the winter without it being able to start. Never did anything special to save it or maintain it. Could have lasted another year in a warmer climate, for sure.

I just rechecked the records for my 2008. So I actually got almost 6 years out of the original battery. I probably could have pushed mine further, but it's not worth getting stuck.

Indeed it does. Arizona is not kind to batteries and the heat usually kills them after a year. I got six years out of my stock battery, but that was only because I kept it hooked up to a Battery Tender when I was riding my motorcycle.

I'm happy to hear that since mine will turn 4 this October. I do keep my car in a garage too and here in mild climate of Chicago, I expect it to last longer than some hotter climates I can think of.

if you buy an AGM battery the life is much longer than the standard submerged cell tech. I got a Duracell one from batteries plus was like 120 and its the 50R bigger one. its starting my car fine in Bozeman at college with my daughter..

I run the Excide AGM in the wife's BMW, car has about 100 fuses and stays "on" for 20 to 30 minutes after you walk away.. Looks like a golf cart battery its so big, you could likely crank 20 fits up with it at once..

One caveat for those tempted to install an AGM battery: they take longer for the car to charge them up, so they may NOT be the answer if you do a lot of short trips.

The 09 fit sport 5mt I got in Sept. 08 battery lasted until 2014. Coincidently the same time I got OBD2 Bluetooth dongle. The battery I got to replace it lasted just 3 years (local rebuild). I disconnected the dongle and now my 2nd battery seems fine. The dongle worked fine but was a cheap one from Amazon, used it with Dash which confirmed my driving habits were fine. Other OBD2 diagnostic apps I used were pretty lame in the "free" mode.

Hello, I have just changed my Honda Fit 2016 battery, not because it died but rather to prevent it will die on me while on the road. Went to Advanced Auto Parts here in North Miami Beach and they replaced with no problem at all. My new battery cost $172.80 with a 3 year guarantee. It’s a 151R Battery Gold.

2016 is not the first generation, but anyways, Honda replacement battery is 40% cheaper and fits better!
