ATF Filter?

I spoke to the stealership yesterday and they said that when doing auto trans maintenance on the Fit you just drain and fill the fluid. When asked whether they do the trans filter, he said that was an older car thing and there wasn't one on the Fit.

So, do these Fits have a trans filter? Everything I know says they should.. If so, is it inside the drain pan, attached to the engine like an oil filter, or something else?

I found this in line filter on Rockauto.. this is aftermarket I'm told: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...358&cc=1441754

There is an inline filter. You have to remove the battery tray to get to it. I replaced mine at 90,000 miles.

Yes, the Fit has an inline trans filter.

This is for the 2nd gen https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...on-filter.html but the filter should be in that general area.

Tranny filters on the Fit aren't meant to be replaced in regular service I'd think, since you have to go through all that trouble + tranny filters last quite a while.

I got my "transmission service" (actually just a flush) done at 75k, and all it is is a basic fluid flush and change. That's it.

Interesting, thanks for the info and the link. It does look like a bit of work to get to.. Wonder why they decided to put it under the battery of all places :S

Originally (up to the mid 2000s) Honda transmissions didn't have ANY filter. There were some screens, integral with some of the shift solenoid gaskets, that could gum up if recommended trans fluid changes were not performed.

Then Honda started with the small inline external filters. They never had a recommended replacement on those, AFAIK.

So I'd say, unless you just want to buy peace of mind, there is no need to replace it UNLESS you get slow shifting or slipping some other problem... THEN buy one and start digging in.
