broken wheel stud

hey guys, when my mechanic installing my camber bolts one of my lug nuts was stuck that they have to force it but the stud broke, he told me to get 4 studs to replace them, question is is it better to get the hub assembly?,i mean do they come with bolts for easier install rather than putting in the studs one by one...as far as i know they were pressed in and no way to take the from behind unless pulling out the hub?..anyone had experience this?

You can change the stud without pulling out the whole hub. Buying a new hub will also need a new wheel bearing.

My friend broke his stud a while back so I took a look at it. I tapped out the old stud which is fairly easy because it is broken. Then to install a new stud, I had to shave the side of the back and then I could tap it in. I used a dremel. Stud will still work the same even with the shaved back.

You did not say if it was front or rear any way the hub can be removed with out damaging the bearings. You may want to replace the seal. Replace all of the wheel bolts on that hub. This is not a difficult task. Simply press out the old wheel bolts and press in the new ones.
If the mechanics are having this much of a problem with this simple of a problem I would find another shop.......

It is safe as I said already. Also it was his front driver's side stud I replaced.

Also if you do the front bearings, no matter what, it's going to need to be replaced. If you decide to pull out the bearing, go ahead and get a new hub with the studs in it. That will save a lot of trouble getting the bearing off of the old hub(most people saw it off.)

Where do these guys come from?

Bang out the old studs, pound in new, grease the bearing and move on.

Are you in Nashville? I'll do it for a 12pack and you helping.

Look at what Marrk?

Studs and hubs are the same as every car made since 1950.

The bearing comes off with the hub, the inner race stays on the spindle, basic propane torch heat will let that come off by prying with a screwdriver. Why saw it off and risk marring it?

Again, where are these guys learning this crap?

I messed up a stud on my Fit as well, it's as simple as banging it out and popping a new one in. two studs cost like 5 bucks from Autozone.

just an update my studs were back i got the studs from honda they are like 3 dollars something each..so i got 4, but my mechanic told me we just need to change 3 and the risk was he had to pull the bearings out which he wasn't sure if we can reuse the old bearings..and he doesn't wanna do any short cut like cutting the old studs and bang it till it falls out..according to him 80% of bearings he pulled out and put back in worked fine..and as of now..i think their still good i don't hear any weird sound,so just a short advice to anyone gonna have this problem just do the proper way..youll have peace of mind after all..

Sure. Pull the hub, knock out the broken stud and replace.

I went to change a tire one day and had TWO of them messed up. I had just had a tire replaced at a tire shop a few weeks early. They cross threaded one and the lug nut just would spin in place and the other seized and I broke off.

I was scared crapless to drive it to the shop like that but she made it (less than a mile) and they replaced all of them for $100. They had to cut the lug off the one, and I believe he just pulled the hub and replaced em.

Which part are you referring to as the spindle?
