Pulling up diagnostics without a scanner? Fit is being weird
Hello!
I've had my '07 Fit for about a year now, and I recently found my CEL on. I went to get the issue diagnosed, was told that it was a catalytic converter issue, and then the light shut off the day after. Since then, I've been getting terrible gas mileage in comparison to normal (About 15-20 MPG) and in higher gears the engine seems like it's working harder.
At the same rate, the dealership decided they wanted to charge me $1500 for a catalytic converter, which didn't seem right to me at all. I'm going to take my Fit to another mechanic, but in the meantime, what could be the problem? Is there a way to retrieve a diag code from my car (if at all) to see if the catalytic converter is even the problem to begin with?
Thanks!

easiest way to do this is pull off the battery negative cable for a few minutes, hit the brake a few times, then reattach the negative cable.
This clears all codes, and forces ecu to go into learning mode. Let it idle for at least 15 minutes. I believe the manual states waiting until the radiator fans have kicked on twice.
If the CEL pops back on, go to almost any parts store and get a free code scan.
Go from there. If its an emissions code, a clogged EGR or catalytic converter is most likely.
If it has more then 100k miles, perhaps it is time for a new O2 sensor. Denso is the preferred brand for Honda sensors.

How many miles do you have on the car? If it's under IIRC 80K miles, the catalytic converter should still be covered under the emissions warranty. Check the fine print in your warranty pamphlet to be sure. (Obviously, if it's still covered and is indeed bad, you shouldn't have to pay for the replacement.)

torque app is way cheaper, and a bluetooth elm327 box is about $15 nowadays on ebay or amazon
