First post, looking at a 2007 Fit DX, what do you think?

Hi guys,

First post, just got finished test driving a 2007 Fit Dx, 5 spd with 198,000 kms. Canadian eh? Just wondering if you guys could help me decide if it's worth the asking price.

Cons- back bumper has a few moderate scratchs and a large crack about 3 inchs long. Very tiny (end of a ball point pen) spot of rust on the roof near the driver's side front. CEL is on and the owner claims it is an airflow sensor and will be about $300 to fix. The upper window seals were damaged due to a roof rack and were fixed a little sloppy, but no leaks. Has the occasional leak at the rear hatch (found the fix on here for it .

Pros- claims to have all the receipts for all the maintenance done to it. One mature owner. Has winter tires on steelies (1 season left) and all seasons on stock steelie/hubcaps (1 season left). Undercoated every year. All brakes just changed. Non smokers.

Asking $4500 Can. I checked the Canadian Black Book value for a 2007 dx with 198,000 kms and the average asking price is $4000.

I told him that I would like to have it up on a lift and inspected, oil changed. He had no problem with that.

So it's a waiting game to see if anything else shows up.

What do you guys think?

If the average price is 4k, I wouldn't pay 4.5k for one with any sort of mechanical issues.

Please, gimme a brake with buying a car without A/C. Don't do it! A/C is important for the front defogger in winter. You'll have a hell of time driving with 0 visibility with no a/c. Spend a bit more and get an LX. Cruise control and AC are a must! At least buy a DX-A!

I think you should probably go for it.

Keep saving your $$.spend a little more. They come up on kijiji all the time around here. You may spend a little less for this one but may cost you more in the long run. Hold out for the "sport"....you 'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the advice! We are gonna get it inspected and oil changed on Tuesday. They are willing to negotiate the price for the air sensor and anything found at the garage.

So we'll see! My last car was a '96 Civic Cx, no A/C, no power steering, crank windows, i didn't mind it. Also swapped in a B20Z w/ ITR transmission.

Still not a good deal. I wouldn't pay over the blue book value for a car with existing issues. I mean, you'll find a couple but others might not be found and start rearing their head. I'd hold out for the next add but to each his own.

I agree MTLian, but we'll see what the inspection shows. They are flexible on the price.

So as of a few mins ago, this car is no longer for sale. The owner was about to buy a new car but it got sold so now he can't sell this one to us. Now I have to call the garage and cancel an inspection for the second time! (First one was last week, buyer flaked).

And so continues the frustration, lol.
