Tow Hook Install Question

I purchased a front bumper screw on tow hook and have a question about the install:

After removing the existing tow hook hole cap (See photo)

I revealed the tow hook hole. (see Photo)

My question is should I leave the car interior revealed and screw the tow hook in as directed, or should I drill a hole in the cap, reinstall it, then screw the tow hook in through the cap. I am not sure if it is a good idea to leave the car bumper interior exposed.

Thank You

I wouldn't worry too much about exposing the stuff under the bumper cover; it's not a weatherproof covering anyhow, as it's open through the grille and underneath. The bumper cover itself, being plastic, is of course basically impervious to the elements. It would not hurt anything to put a little bit of enamel on the metal framework underneath to give it a bit of extra protection (regardless of what you end up doing with the cover).

Thank you for the feedback!

I have a second issue, after receiving the aftermarket tow hook I realized that the new tow hook has the wrong diameter screw, even though it was meant to fit my car make and model. I would like to keep this rather than ship it back, so I need a 1cm Diameter screw to use to screw into my car and then screw the tow hook on the other end.

Does anyone know where I can find such a thing?

Thank You

So I managed to find the correct screw at my local Lowes. The bolt that fit was a M12 x 1.75.

Next I had to cut off the head of the bolt which I had done at my local Home Depot.

Lastly I screwed the newly cut screw into the head of the Tow Hook then screwed the Tow Hook with thread into the car bumper frame. The diameter screw took a little elbow grease to get in but it will not come out and I am confident no one will be able to steal it without tools .

I will post a pic soon I hope this may help others in the future.

Curious to know why you want the tow hook permanently fitted? Did the original one that came with the car get stolen?

Yeah partly I installed it for fun and to get my hands dirty. I am pretty new to modding so it was a simple task yet still had its challenges. I like the look too!
