First FIT - used car - Advice appreciated
Just purchased 's a 2007 Honda fit sport MT. *97K miles very clean and the mechanic check was good. *Not knowing the past mechanical history I plan to 1. change all the fluids 2. complete all recommended service between 60,000 and 100,000 miles.
What other items would you recommend for a new fit owner who doesn't know the history of this car?
This is the first car for my teenage daughter so am also interested in mods and*upgrades that enhance & MPG.
Any advice is appreciated. *T

same exact story here Txtag1 except that mine is an automatic. I put all new fluids in mine, which came to me with 94,000 one owner miles. Pull up on the emergency brake to see how much travel there is. I was appalled how poor the brakes were in that there was a lot of pedal travel before the brakes engaged. My mechanic told me that my rear brakes were at 85% or better. Knowing that the previous owner hadn't done anything except oil changes and front brakes and tires, I figured that the rear brakes were 7 years old. I then had my mechanic close the gap on the shoes. The emergency brake is nice and tight now and the car's brakes engage at/near the top.
Also, you should have your mechanic adjust the valves now before you start having stuttering problems. I would leave the coils and plugs in until they begin to fail. Once you have the valves done, when the car begins to have a performance problem after that, you will automatically know it is time to do the plugs and coils. Here's hoping that both our cars last well past the college years.

What you said and what they said, plus I would change out the spark plugs during a valve adjustment.
My Fit likes to have a new battery approx. every three years. You might save yourself and your daughter some trouble and put a new one in now. Maybe there are better, stronger and longer lasting batteries than the OEM.
Good luck.

yes, marrk is right about the battery. If you or a friend have Costco access, get the 51R battery since it is an easy replacement in the first generation Fit. You just have to trim the bottom, plastic battery tray since the Costco battery is a touch wider than the 151 Honda battery which is not as powerful.

All thanks for the input. Will add them to my list to review with my mechanic.....
BurntZ thnx for the hint on the Costco batt. Will defiantly look into that when replacing it..l
Mark any idea why fit goes through batt so quickly? What did you replace with?

I don't know. However, it has been suggested on fitfreaks that short trip driving may not be sufficient to fully charge the battery and/or the OEM battery is a piece of crap. I haven't found an aftermarket replacement yet because I've been busy, but BurntZ's 51R suggestion is where I will start my research.

It was a small battery when I bought the car. When the original crapped out, the dealer put in an even smaller one. Go figure.

If the mechanical work seems good and all checks out I would not worry too much about doing much to the car. Checking the brakes is always a smart thing due to a safety issue.
Other then that I think you have it all covered. I would do the same thing as you personally, do the maintenance between 60-100k if it has not been done already.

Not enough to worry about, and any improvement will mostly be compensated for automatically by the ECU. Of course, if the filter is dirty/plugged, replacing it will help...but that's because it's dirty. (The air intake changes don't really do anything for performance or MPG due to the Fit's ECU self-adjusting. They do make the engine sound "better," at least if that's the sound you like to hear. Personally, I'd prefer an engine I hardly hear at all, but different strokes for different folks and all that.)

I would go to Home Depot and spend 10$ on some gutter guard and black zip ties and install a strip of GG behind the opening under the front fascia. It's near invisible and it'll protect your AC condenser from rocks and road debris that might damage it if it gets flung in there at highway speeds.
Check this thread for pics and inspiration on how to do it:

I wouldnt worry too much about the air filter/intake. The stock one is fine. I am looking into putting an aftermarket one on, but do not want to go to low or else my intake will suck up water if I drive over the puddle. Things to keep in mind when changing from stock.

Did I overpay for my 2008 fit?
10/2013
I posted this in the 2nd generation forum, but now realize I have a 1st generation (in the US) fit. Any feedback is appreciated.
I just bought a 2008 56K excellent (brand new brakes and battery), one female owner, well maintained, manual Fit for US$10,900 plus taxes (6.5%) plus title and $75 dealer fee. Did I pay too much? Midwest USA. The dealer said they don't negotiate. Should I have tried to negotiate?
My independent mechanic (I've known for over 20 years) checked it out and said it needs a brake fluid flush and everything else is fine (no rust).
