RIP Silver Bullet. My SSM 07 Fit Sport has been totaled by a LARGE doe.
After a whopping 240k miles in 6.5 years, my trusty Storm Silver Metallic Fit Sport is done. The insurance company gave me $5800 for her. I hit a deer on the passenger front quarter, I was not harmed at all, no airbags deployed. But the mileage and cost of the repair added up to a total loss.
If I may impart any wisdom to someone interested in buying a used 1st gen Fit, it would be these points:
- Get your coil packs changed. Buy new ones every 75k - 100k miles. Just do it. Stop #ucking around with BS workarounds, just pay Bernardi the $250 for a new set and you'll be happy. Hesitation disappears. Besides, if you don't, your misfiring will turn your Cat into lava. And they are tits easy to change at that.
- New plugs usually don't do squat. If you're having a real problem with a plug it will be extremely evident, like misfiring every stroke. Just change them at the regular intervals with iridium plugs and make sure they aren't soaked with oil.
- Get your valve clearances adjusted minimum 100k miles. Mine were so bad when I finally got mine done that one intake valve was stuck open. you'll probably want to get this done when you change the coils.
- Change your oil. It's almost too easy. Listen to the maintenance minder. It's 20 dollars. Seriously.
- Same goes with your brakes. I used to have a set of spare rotors which cost around $100 and that way I'd always have a set ready and resurfaced to put right on. You can buy lifetime replacement ceramic brake pads from Auto Zone or Advance or Pep Boys for a little extra and never pay for new ones again.
An 8, 10, 12, 14 and 17 mm socket wrench and a breaker bar, plus a video from you tube, and you're saving hundreds a year.
I know, TL; DR. but as this is my last post here ever, I figured i'd help out.
Later, Fit Freaks! I bought a 98 CR-V and am off to enjoy the land of B-Block MIL chasing!
Peace. And remember, It FITs.
