Top speed question

I have a stock 08 base AT Fit.
I often cruise it at 80 mph and sometimes at 85 mph on the interstate.
The engine is not even turning 4000 rpm at these speeds.
Has anyone taken a Fit like mine to flat out top speed?
I just wonder how fast these fine cars can really go?
Gregg

IIRC ~112-115 mph for the GD. There's a 5 page thread about it on here.

I don't know about the GD, but with the GE (although I don't plan to ever get close to it, because I am no longer a teenager and am therefore capable of making sound decisions on occasion) I would bet it runs out of steam at 110-115 or so. It's not a terribly aerodynamic car and it's not a high-HP engine, and I can benchmark it vs how other cars felt at high speeds when I actually WAS 18. Sorry, boy racers. Buy a Mustang. The fact that the Fit is not electronically limited tells you something.

I'm sure the speedometer will say 125-130 or something absurd at that speed, but that won't represent reality. Speedos run (depending on the manuf) somewhere around 5-8% optimistic. Why? To compensate for normal tolerance error that could cause the occasional speedo to show a lower speed than actual (a bit dangerous). If you're going to make 100,000 speedometers, you need to bias the average downwards if you want 99.995% to not go that way.

8% is no big deal at 40mph (3.5mph) but deviates more at 115.

I have an '09 Sport and it is flat out zippy IMO. I'm not a speeder by nature but I have to keep my foot in mind because before I know it, I am doing 85mph.

At one time, I got into an uncomfortable spot between two 18 wheelers on the highway and decided to step on it to get out of there and I did hit 100mph quite quickly, so I'd have to guess that 120mph isn't totally unfathomable.

Good question... Never had the want to...

Dang Fuji, you sound like Dr. Spencer (Criminal Minds)... All in jest of course. I'm with you... The speedo numbers are definitely an invite!

Yeah what he said.

I have an 09 Fit Sport and the fastest I've gone was just over 100. Keeping in mind It was on an open strech of e-way with nobody around me. I backed off at 100 but it definitely had a little more go left in it.

Official quoted max speed for my GD1 1.3L is 106 mph. I've gotten to just shy of 100. While it has good torque, the L13A3 engine's meager 82 crank HP and distinct lack of high-end punch really lets it down past 75 mph.

This seems believable to me and a lot of the other numbers are in the ballpark. I would imagine, depending on the slope, this is a fairly accurate estimate.

And the speedo .. also it's a bit absurd that they go up to 140mph. Maybe vertically. Hehe. Not THIS Fit, sister.

Since there's space, I'd really like to see the Honda V6 stuck in the back of a Fit one day, a la renault clio v6. I know the car would be useless - basically a box wrapped around an engine, and incapable of cornering - but useless is often cool. And THAT would be faster. They could call it the FSX.

Why useless?! I mean you would have to get inventive to re engineer the suspension to account for the weight shift... Perhaps like the IRS to compensate for the weight of the batteries in the Fit EV? I think the harder part would be whatever type of transaxle you would be using to transfer the power to the rear wheels... I haven't thought about this at ALL

180km/t with my Jazz 2007 GD1 CVT on the German Autobahn. And it took some time to get there, and the car was very stable all the way up to that speed. No signs of any unbalance in the car at all that you can feel in other small cars in high speeds.

At several track verified top speed about 115 mph. It won't reach max rpm in 5th.

a magazine here in Australia did the Jazz with rear mounted NSX motor concept. In saying that they "did" it, they did a sketch and thought of all the things needed to be done but never built it.
