What would/did you to to make awful commutes better?

I spend about 2 hours each day going to and from work, in insanely dense traffic, 5 days a week. Maybe I'm just getting older but my '07 base is just not very comfortable, nor does it have amenities.

What could I do to improve ergonomics and convenience?

I have added tinted windows, keyless entry and an iPod adapter (that doesn't really work with my iPhone 4S). That's it.

If you mean your old bones feel even older sitting in your 09 Fit in 4 hours of traffic in a day then I recommend you upgrade your seat to a Civic version.

Or the older seat is probably breaking down have you thought of having it re-upholstered?

I do not know how much these two options would cost.

I have a 2012 and I do not know if a better armrest is available for an 09. That might be an option.

For a while my wife owned a Hyundai Accent. It was very loud on the highway. It would give me a headache every time. From what I’ve read the 09’s are a bit louder than the new 2012’s. If noise is an issue there are several products mentioned on this site to help with that. I can help in that search if you wish.

You must have a terrific house to want to drive that much everyday!

In my 09, wider tires with a softer sidewall like the continental DW and a rear sway bar made driving on the highway less fatiguing. After that, I'd get clazzio seat covers, or some equivalent, which add a little padding. Window visors are nice if you like to cruise with the windows down at all, since that lessens buffeting. They also provide some shade to the tall greenhouse the Fit has. Depending on your mileage, new dampers. A harsh, of jolting ride can really take its toll on you. So can vibration and wind noise.

I'm a fan of using the right tool for the job. For me, if I actually had to sit in stop & go traffic for that long, and thought that would continue for years, I would trade the Fit for something else! Here's my thoughts:

1. Clearly not everyone can afford something truly comfortable like a Mercedes or an Avalon. We'll leave those alone for now.
2. There are a lot of really comfortable midsize cars these days. The Accord, for example - SE with leather for $24,5 new (just as an example - no need to buy new necessarily).
3. There are a lot of cars more comfy than the Fit. Toyota Corolla, not a wonderful driver's car (ok not at all), but pretty comfy actually. Tons available, although, tend to hold value pretty well, making a new one actually a better choice.
4. Stop & go is tailor-made for a hybrid. Not only is the Fit's AT a bit lurchy at low speeds, it also stays on at idle. Toyota Prius is the best choice here. Not the C. The Honda hybrids aren't comfy enough for this purpose.

Or an old Caddy. I would seriously consider this if I were in your situation

Throwing a new sound system in made my time in the Fit 200% better, especially with a new head unit, upgraded speakers, and a nice 10" sealed sub to really let you FEEL the music and make sure it sounds super-accurate! But then again, I'm a music freak and audiophile so......
