Unhappy 2007 sport vs. culvert. culvert wins. scrap yard?

it's a 2007 sport. insurance said 'total loss'.
everything still works but the frame is FUBAR and motor mount on block cracked off. should i take it to the scrap yard or is there a market for the undamaged parts. hey, this is unbelievable, all the controlls in the crushed driver-side door still work.

There's always some market for undamaged parts, but does your insurance co really allow you to keep a loss car? Usually they make you pay for it and with a ruined frame and engine the car is effectively impossible (and dangerous) to try to repair.

Be 100 percent sure the insurance company is not taking the car when they pay your claim. Unless you only have liability and no collision/comp, they "usually" take the car when they pay the claim.

I've seen worse damage than that get rebuilt. There was a place in eastern Oklahoma south of Tulsa specializing in buying damaged Fits and rebuilding them. There is another one in South Carolina. Now if I can just find the name or phone number, I'll post it.

I found it. The town was Coweta, OK. Zip code 74429

nine one eight-277-zero four three four.

Call them and see what they will give you for your car or charge you to fix it.

I have never dealt with them. So I can not tell you anything else about them.

In the USA, you may "retain the salvage" (wrecked car) but the insurer will deduct what it determines to be "salvage value" (what a salvage yard would pay for it) from the settlement. If the owner takes the usual route of signing title over to the insurer and accepting the full "total loss" settlement, the insurer recoups a few bucks by selling the wreck via a salvage market.
