Cutting springs?

I have a 2007 fit that I put some T1R lowering springs all around and I'm hoping one day to get some coil overs to dump it on its butt a little more but I"m running 205/40/17's all around. A buddy of mine suggested that if I went with a small tire, like a 195, I'd have a enough to stretch the tires so my finders would clear if I lower it more so I could save up to get some smaller wheels too. Has anyone ever cut lowering springs before? Is it safe if you know what you are doing? Just trying to get an idea to make it look better now until I save up to get coil overs and a set of 16'' wheels for it. Any suggestions/ideas? Thanks for reading.

people have done it. It does worsen the quality of the ride. I would advise to just stick it out. The less ghetto mods done the better.

NOOO it is not safe. your spring rates will be off. Your car will be lower but the springs will still be as soft as they are at normal height. As the spring compresses the compression rate needs to increase either in a linear fashion or a progressive one. With a cut spring your chances of bottoming out increase.

We've cut sstock and lowered springs often and reshaped the curve and ends for race cars. Its not something recommended for lowered springs on stock cars which have higher-than-stock spring rates. Cutting even one end coil means considerable reshaping and stiffness.
Interference can be avoided better by reducing wheel offset, typically 45 mm will get by any rubbing, especially with 195 tires.
If you're going with coil-overs you best route is getting coils matched to springs by the manufacturer.
good luck.

Probably ok if you're between the ages of 16-19 and are just doing it for looks. Car will handle like poo poo, runs the risk of a spring unseating if you hit a big enough bump and you dying in a firey crash. Probably not worth it.

Did it in my younger days and unseated a spring once. Was a tad scary. Never did it again.

we all know and have read many times what will happen if we cut springs. My Fit is on tein s-techs, it dropped about 1.8 inches (exactly what teins advertised) but my front was sitting a little bit higher than the back, so i cut my front tein s-techs a full coil (half a coil above and half a coil below)
and I was satisfied. The ride is still comfortable because roads here in japan are good. But now, I want to get even lower so I will be buying coilovers maybe end if this year.

Cutting springs are safe if you did it the right way. but of course (as the internet has always said) the ride will not be the same. I am not saying to cut your springs. If you really want to do it, then do it. If you are in doubt, then do what you know best. that's your car, do whatever you want with it as long as it makes you happy.
