not happy after dealer MT fluid change.

so about a year ago or so i got the trans fluid drained/refilled by the dealer. the shifter has been notchy ever since. i just put pennzoil syncromesh in my 91 Civic tonight and it's extremely smooth. i was wondering if i used that in the Fit if it would make it smooth again, but i don't want to harm anything. the new Honda MTF is EXTREMELY thin compared to the older formula. anyone tried anything other than honda MTF with good results?

GM Synchromesh seems to be the trend among manual Honda transmissions I've been reading. I'm not sure why so I'd wait till a few others chime in about it though with more info on it.

I've noticed this also. I changed my transmission fluid a couple months ago at the dealer and am not happy at all. It feels the same or maybe even worse. I'm gonna stop by and question them about this problem next time I'm in the area.

mine definitely got worse. i'll see if i can find some people who have changed to syncromesh.

i don't mind doing the work myself. it's easy. took me 30 minutes in my civic last night to change it out and i was taking my time bs-ing..

Interesting....

I thought my CR-V didn't shift as smooth after the new Hondas MTF went in too...

I'd opine that as long as a fluid is safe for the synchronizers (brass) everything would be OK. I use Redline MT-90 in my other car (not a Honda). In the 1980s, Honda spec'd 10W-30 motor oil for the manuals....

yeah, i know to stay away from redline in the hondas, though. but the syncromesh has been recommended for years for the older transmissions. i use redline in my miata.

a good read, if you have a minute:

I always had good results with Red Line ATF's and MTF's! Red Line MTL is what would go in my Fit if it was stick shift but it's ATX so i use a 50\50 mix of Red Line's Racing ATF and lightweight Racing ATF!

Marko!
