What to do.....

I decided over a month ago to start looking for replacement tires for the Dunlops. I looked everywhere but could not locate any thing that I really liked. Then I developed a bulge on the left front tire and decided they had to go. I was lucky to have a friend recommend this little hole in the wall tire store and I went there on August 20th. They could get the Yokohoma tires I was looking for and said they would have them by Wednesday. No one called me on Wednesday so I called on Thursday and was told the tires were in Charleston but they could not spare anyone to go pick them up. I told the guy that I was off on Friday to get the car detailed for a big show and I could come over if it was early in the morning. No one called so I assumed they did not have them and went to working on the Fit. They called around 11:30 AM and my Mom told them I had just put the wax on and it would have to be the next Saturday as they are closed by the time I get off from work. So I showed up yesterday and at 8:00 AM and there were already a few people in front of me which was no biggie because I had all day. Looking around I noticed that the garage was dirty! I know it is a garage but it should still look somewhat clean. There is even old cups in the garage bays and I notice the only cars coming in are older very dirty cars/trucks. So finally at 10:30 AM he pulls my car into the bay and I let him know that I have the tuner key for the lugs in the passenger seat. He gets it up on the rack and I hear the air gun wwwwwhhhhhiiiiiirrrrrllllllll! I even get up to look because I am thinking he was hitting it pretty hard. He stops suddenly and calls the manager back. I am thinking I should have listen to the voice in my head because I was getting a bad vibe the longer I sit there. The manager brings out my tuner key which has only been used to trade out the aftermarket rims 3 times. He said"someone has stipped your key and it cracked". He said they do it all the time just made of soft metals - funny that it was not looking cracked when I looked at it that morning to make sure I had the right one. Anyway, he said that he can get me the same key by Tuesday and that his wife even has my same rims so he can borrow hers although he made no effort to do anything for me that day. He said to just come back on Tuesday. I almost said you know what just let me pay for the tires and I'll have them put on by someone else.

I left and I just don't think I want these guys touching my car. They just look like they could care less. They made no comment about my car just acted like it was some generic thing that they had no interest in. I guess I was expecting at least a reaction - you expect it because you get them from total strangers that are not car people but a garage I guess you hope the guys working there have some passion for cars.

So now I don't know whether I should just order from Tire Rack and get someone to put them on for me so I can get the Yokohomas or just go with something different at the place I ordered my rims from. Those guys have always been great and never had any issues with them. I have never paid for the tires because he said I did not have to pay until they were on the car. Yesterday the biggest sale they made while I was sitting there was 69.00 and yet they have a customer who is shelling out $500.00 plus that I am sure their business could use but there give me no customer service and I feel that they were responsible for the damager to the key.

Appreciate your thoughts!

Go with who you trust - the rim guys. I'm sure if you brought the Yoko's to them [or asked them to order them for you] they would be happy to serve you. I'm thinking they understand the true value of your show winner and appreciate you as a valued customer.

I would go back to the butcher shop and get cash in hand to replace the key they ruined as well. For them to suggest 'someone' stripped it out is a true statement of their character.

Bad Yelp review, don't go back, tell your friends.

Don't buy the tires from them, get them from tirerack and have someone else put them on. Don't give them you're business, that's the best way to send the message that you don't appreciate what they did.

Good luck.

Go with your gut Cat! Specially withy a show car like yours! I have an eye out for those guys with wwwwwhhhhhiiiiiirrrrr impact wrenches. Most of them go with "one torque setting fits all". Man, I'd be pissed and as Wanderer stated, let the world know how bad they are.

That was a typical "blame it on the equipment, the customer doesn't know any better" attitude. Make your thoughts be heard, and their bad rep stink be known far and wide! Good luck!

Cat :X) you know .... that's not the place MR Fit should be @ these are the guys that spit tobacco slobber @ car show on ones they don't approve of. Don't take him back there and count your blessings it wasn't the stud they snapped in half. Buy another key let them eat the tires and use someone that appreciates your business and your Fit.

Dont go back and don't even buy the tires from them. At most see if you can get them to replace the key at no charge for breaking it. After that stay away and stick with the guys you know and trust.

Thanks guys! Appreciated your post and thoughts. I am going to touch base with the guys that put my rims on for me and do a great job. First will see if they can order my key and then I am going to see if they can get the Yokohomas and if they can't I am going to ask if I order them from Tire Rack would they put them on. Always trust your gut feeling - it will never get you into trouble that is a good lesson learned! Will let you know what happens.

I always believe when things go wrong it is because God knows that something different must happen. I called the place where I purchased my ICW Racing Rims from and asked the guy about getting a replacement tuner key. He said they keep them in stock and wanted to know why I needed another one for. I told him what happened at the other place and he said well what tire are you looking for? I told him about the Yokohoma's and he said wait a minute and put me on hold. He comes back to say that they can get 4 from the ware house today and get them on around 3:00 PM. I only thought they sold Bridgestones and Goodyears! He said no we can get anything you need and we keep them in stock. I asked to leave early and my boss was understanding when I told her my front tires could explode at any time. I was there and out in 45 minutes with 2 new tuner keys in hand. He told me that they had not done any damage to the studs and he said when they get your kind of car in they are not use to working on them and they just don't have a clue. I love the tires - better ride than the Dunlops and they felt good on the wet pavement. They charged me $44.00 less than the guys that mess up the key.
