A/C Always on?

Alright, so I've had my Fit for about a month now, I actually come to find out hate A/C, I was so happy to finally have a car where it worked properly and I never use it unless I need to..

I've noticed though that it seems to be on even when the A/C button is not pushed on. If I have the Air Flap set to bring in outside air, and turn on the fan to move around some air the A/C compressor kicks on. Is it supposed to do this? It seems as though anytime I turn on the fan in certain configurations the ac compressor kicks on even though the button is off? Come to think of it i think its only when i have the knob turned windshield defrost, doesnt matter where the outside/recirucaltion lever is set to, but I have to turn the temprature control knob close to the center to hear the A/C kick off.

This is somewhat frustrating on a cooler day when I just want to turn the fan on and leave the windows up to bring in some air circulation while on the highway as it kills MPG's as well.

Most all cars these days kick in the AC when in defrost mode - helps a whole lot in clearing the cabin humidity.

Simply don't set it at those modes and it wont come on.

There are threads explaining how to disable this function if you're obsessed by it.
I've learned to use it for it's benefits.

It's because you have it set to defrost.

The A/C compressor is used to blow dry air onto the windshield to get rid of the moist condensation on the glass. The compressor will run regardless of if you have it set to hot or cold.

Take it off the defrost setting, problem should be solved.

Makes sense I suppose, I just don't like air slamming me in the face so I tend to use defrost for pretty much everything, so on a day where its not hot/humid enogh for A/C but I just want some air circulation in the cabin its quite annoying that it just turns itself on.

I'll have to look for that thread about disableing it. Thanks guys!

Just put it on the "feet setting" or close the vents?

Ahhh. Thanks I had the same question. I don't think I'll disable it I'll just take the knob off the defrost setting.
