17x8: will it fit?

I'm sure anything can fit u just have to be willi to make some changes but what will I face with trying to fit a 17x8 on my GD? Right now I'm super stock. Sobmost Likely I'll have to get some kid of coil over set up. But idk if wanna spend all that money on coils. Cause I'm thinking on slamming it later on with some bags. Get that VIP look going. Any suggestions? I'm just teallystartong to look into getting some new wheels. Looking at XXR 527 either in gold or the polished or whatever that simple non chrome silver color is.

17x8 can work. Be prepared to roll all fenders once lowered. Possibly pull fenders depending on offset. Most boys round here with XXR are the crazy offset/ hellaflush guys. If thats your look it can be done. Will require fender work.

tire size will make the biggest difference between fitting and not. also wheel offset.

i wanna do all that fender work but im kinda scared to... but hey thats the name of the game right? thats what has to happen if i wanna put wheels that are not meant to go on my car... but i want it!!!

this is really what im wanting to achieve is this stance... see how the rim kinda sticks out more than the tire? i wanna do that... and the tire stretch

Depends on the offset but you will have to do fender bodywork even with 45 mm offset optimum.
Why in the world do you think you need an 8 inch wide wheel? Besides the extra weight that reduces acceleration and mpg, what size tire do you expect will help a Fit that needs that width?
Oh, forgot. It's only for looks.

A wheel offset calculator should help you get a better idea of what kind of differences you will see:

just keep in mind your offset and profile and you shouldnt have any problems and keep in mind the lower the car is in some ereas you could beat the hell out of your undercarraige worked in a auto shop use to see some real horror stories

The XXR 527's are 17x8.25 +25. To achieve the look you want, go with a 195/40R17 tire. You'll have to do some fender work.

Note its a lot of expensive - and undoable when trade-in time comes - bodywork to clear wheels with 25 mm offset, even mounting 195/40x17 tires. Which brings another observation; do you know how silly a 195 section tire, thats 7.67", will look on a 8.25" wide rim? If you mount a 205/40 your bodywork required will be fierce.
Thats not considering the ease of pulling the tire bead from the rim on a hard corner.
A 17x7 wheel with 45 mm offset and mounting 195/40x17 tires will look much better even when dropped a couple of inches.
Being different isn't always right.

I think it will look like the pictures the OP showed illustrating the look he was trying to achieve.

Here's a 195/40 on a 17x8.5:

Precisely. See a gap between rim flange and tire bead? Helping someone reach undesireable, even unsafe, goals is not admirible.

the lip of the rim is NOT where the tire seats. its not unsafe, every ricer around is doing it now and none of them are dead bc of it.

is it my style? nope..i prefer the gay honda offsets but that doesnt meant we should even give our opinion of WHY he should/shouldnt do a stretch.

yeah guys im just doin it for the looks. i wanna start paying around with stance. i like the whole look. im not into racing(not in a fit at least.. )i wanna get into drifting soon and im just making this GD my cruiser. i mean i might change my mind later on and go a different route but for now im just going for the look. i love fit4trav's GD. seen it in person at a meet and i immediately fell in love with the stance. but i dont wanna be a copycat and do exactly what he did. i wanna do it a lil different.

anyways, im still looking around and going back and forth on what wheels i want. as of right now im not gonna go xxr anymore. i found some BBS RS reps made by ESM wheels that i really like and have heard good reviews from bimmer guys around my area and friends of friends. eventually i know i wanna buy a set of real BBS RS Prima donna wheels but thats gonna be a long search and a lot of $$$... but thats what ill have to throw down for my all time favorite rim(that will never change)

as far as the tire stretch, im not too worried on the dangers of having stretched tires. i know ppl that have stretched tires that go on tracks and run their cars pretty rough and have yet to be in any kind of accident or tires popping in. i drive very conservative. i go speed limit and am not racing around my town causing havoc. i<3Driving Slow.

thanks to all the comments tho. i appreciate all of them. comments and opinions are all personal and all come from experience. no such thing as wrong. its all informational.

so, with that... as of right now im going with these and im pretty committed to them

ESM 002(BBS RS replica) 16x7.5 +20 gold(until i paint them white with gold studs and center cap. ill rock those til i find my fav: BBS RS Prima Donna)
