vibration under seat when starting up in FIT 07
Hi everyone!
I've just noticed some vzzzing/rhumming noise with my fit and cannot figure where it comes from. I've searched the forums and other websites and only found articles and posts about the very silent buzzing sound which occurs when turning the key to II.
The sequence is:
Startup engine,
engage D or R(this is a CVT model)
And after 5-10secs, the vzzing/vibration sound comes and last 2-3secs.
Is it a warning? Is it the steering wheel which unlocks???
Specs:
Honda vit 1st gen: Yr november 2007(1month before 2nd gen)
1330cc, Idsi engine; CVT gearbox.
Other remarks: I can feel the vibration under my left feet and a bit under driver's seat(as if coming from the fuel tank). I noted that the vibration only comes when I'm rolling forwards or backwards, not in an idle position. Say, I leave the engine on to close my gate, when I come back, engage from P to D, I can hear and feel the vibration once again(its quite loud, even rear passengers can hear it). It lasts 2 secs and seems to be generated by an electric motor(sounds almost exactly like a floppy drive sound).
Can someone please help?

My guess is that it is the fuel pump... If it wasn't so hot and humid I would put on my hearing aids, go outside and see if I can hear the same type of sound from the same area on my car.... Maybe later I'll do it.

Thanks for reply.
In fact, i've read on other posts that when switching the key to II, there's a low sound vibration which indicates fuel pump activating. Then other posts talk about solenoid valve noise. But the noise I hear is when the engine is switched on. What's even more weirs is that the noise comes each time I switch from P to D or R and start to move, that's when the noise comes.

What your discribing sure sounds like what Tex said, a fuel pump on it's way out. Has this been a resent problem or long term? Usally an electric pump will be intermittent before it dies completly.

I got my service manual out after reading your first post and I can't see anything that would make a noise other than the fuel pump... There is an insane amount of wiring, sensors and other stuff I looked at in the manual but nothing else that would make a noise.. I wish I could be of help to you.. The only other thing I can add is that it may be related to the CVT which isn't available here and not covered in the Helms service manual that is used for the USDM cars.

Ok thanks for your responses. Maybe its the CVT, I'll change the gear oil on next servicing, When shift to Reverse, its taking longer & longer to react(almost 10 seconds). I'll also ask for ODB scans, maybe there's a code somewhere.
