08 Strut/Shock wear time
I have been told by my local NTB that I need to replace my shocks and struts mainly due to my rear tires wearing in a cupped pattern. I have 75,000 of normal highway and city miles on the car. My wife's Odessey did not need new struts until around 100,000 miles. Does anyone have any input on if this sounds kosher? I have done some research and I can purchase the strut assembly as a complete unit with the spring already on. I found some manuals online and it appears to be just a nut and bolt job to replace the assembly as one piece and the rear shock replacement also looks to be unbolting and rebolting. I was quoted about $1,300 to replace the struts and shocks and it looks like I can purchase the strut assemblies with new springs and rear shocks for around $600 I have a 5 year alignment coverage on the car so getting it realigned should not cost anything. I am pretty handy with tools but have never messed around with struts. Should this be pretty straightforward if I replace the struts as one unit and not have to mess with removing and reinstalling the springs?

O'ya You need to look up Bthasht he helps w/ struts/shocks/springs & rims, we did mine (lowered). Get a good set of struts and shocks, do it yourself and save the 700.00. W/ the 700 buy a set of lite weight rims and tires and save on gas.
Yes don't spend what ya don't have to. When doing the struts be careful not to let the drive shafts come out. But if they do don't freak they pop back in . GL & keep us posted.

Get a second opinion on the struts being dead also, that sounds like BS to me. And it always makes me laugh when they tell you something is bad and then break out the Vaseline for their "we can fix it though" qoute. Just for your info I have 108K on my stock struts and I have been lowered on Skunk2 springs for about 75K of that and they are still A-OK.

new struts/shocks at 75k sounds premature; of course, it depends on your typical driving conditions though.
it's not uncommon for our rear tires to cup, especially if you skip a few tire rotations.
do you rotate your tires regularly? and how's your alignment? the rear alignment may be out slightly, but that's not a problem as long as you do the rotations.

I've got 95K on mine and none of the struts are leaking. I also live in Minnesota where the roads are terrible. I also have filled my back seat and hatch area to the roof with mulch twice. My shocks are just fine and I would guess yours are fine as well. When you drive your car down the road does it bounce up and down even for a short time after hitting bumps or does it feel firm?

I am new to Fits but I have had nothing but Hondas for 19 years. Never heard of replacing struts that early unless they were defective - ie leaking, broken.
Replacing struts is not the first thing that pops into my mind to troubleshoot wearing tires. Even certain tires - overly aggressive - can wear oddly because of how they grip and your driving style.
Definitely get a 2nd opinion... checkout Honda and Acura News, Racing, Articles, High Mileage Stories, Recommended Shops, Repair Resources, History, Vanity Plates which has a list of recommended Honda repair shops and dealerships in the US and Canada.
Good luck!

With a spring compressor, strut work becomes easy.
Although I'd be surprised if they really are bad. My civic needed new ones at 170k, the CR-V at 150k, but that was with exposure to washboarded dirt roads every single day. Glad I moved away from there!
