Used GD3 prices up

My wife and I are facing a real conundrum due to this issue. We just had a kid, and frankly the Fit is too small. It's OK if it's just the kid (in the car seat in back), but it has to go on the passenger side (otherwise I don't have room to actually drive) and forces the front passenger seat so close to the dash my wife can't sit in it. Dang rear-facing car seats... So basically if and when we go anywhere, we have to take my wife's 10 year old Camry with close to 200k miles. We're beating it into the ground prematurely.
Looking at prices here in Austin, I'm pretty confident I could get $9-10k for it on Craigslist or eBay. The question is, what would I get to replace it? I want a car, not an SUV/CUV or minivan. We have ONE kid. Just some fun but practical occasional family transportation that's a solid commuter. I love the new Focus, but I'm afraid it's not really much bigger than the Fit. A Fusion? I NEED a hatchback. A WRX wagon? Unacceptable fuel economy. A used BMW 3-series wagon? Ridiculous repair and maintenance costs. Etc.
I kind of feel like I either sell the Fit now or hold my peace and keep it for another 5-7 years.
*sigh*

LOL @ the fit being too small.
You know what my parents drove when my brother and I were kids:
-Ford Tempo Coupe
-Geo Tracker (2 dr convertible)
-Ford Escort wagon
-Ford Wrangler
-Extended cap Toyota Tacoma
Note none of these are newer than 1996.
They were all TINY cars. Yet they could fit 2 kids in it safely.

Are you and your wife 6' plus? I don't see why you should have to make all those accommodations and sacrifices to put in a rear facing child's seat. I put my grand kids in mine and I can put them on either side and still feel rather comfortable with a front seat passenger.

Yea why would you have to move the seats so far forward with a kids seat in there makes no sense to me in less your huge. We put my wifes baby sister in the back all the time with plenty of room still....

I think it depends on the type of rear facing seat. Some of those that pull out and snap into a stroller have huge bases. We got ourcar seat in the fit but my wife is 5'2" or she sat in the back. But once it goes front facing its so much better. We are also gettingready to have a second kidand had the same dilemma and the fit won! We also have an element that is only a 4 seater but so much room. Don't know if that helps but that's our experiance

good news for us in terms of resale...but bad for my car taxes. I have an auto 2008 sport and this year it was assessed for about 14,000$ for tax purposes. It has 76,000 miles on it. I got all angry and started looking at how much they're selling for used and realized that the assessment was fair. :/

LOL, graduated college 2 years ago and I'm still driving my Fit. I'm never gonna get ride of it.

Good luck finding a car in Austin man, they are overpriced as hell! Dallas and houston is where it's at when it comes to car buying!
What's your price range?
I bought my fit for $9500 with 56k miles. I've only owned it for a month and have put about 3k on it. Hell, I drove it 950 miles this weekend!

Anyone know Our (USA) new Number 1# Export business is, Oil Baby or gasoline which ever ya perfer. Gas will hit 5.oo dollars in Ohio this summer, whats stopping them, in ohio we get the garbage gas too. I know we own Fits, but I feel bad for peeps in Califoria. Maybe they'll keep the cost down with the election coming around. Maybe.

I was shocked at the price of gas in Sydney in 1969.. In the U.S.a gallon of regular grade fuel was $0.29.9 and a little more than that for a liter in Sydney... Liquor was a lot cheaper there though.

Well, I pretty much think that the rising gas prices are done on purpose. i really don't understand how the oil prices are tied with our stock market. BTW since I almost have 140K on my fit, I doubt I would get all that much in return, even though I don't wanna sell it.

our number one export is oil.
We seems to have enough oil coming out of this country already. I dont blame all of the oil or energy companies but make no mistake they play a big roll in it. I dont like it when oil companies threaten our president. No I'm not in support of Obama, but the oil companies arent our friend.

Corporations are not supposed to be your "friend." They sell a product for profit, that is all. If there is no profit in a product the corporation that sells it will not continue to do business.
When did any oil company threaten the President?

If you are implying that the oil companies raise the price, you would be wrong. Speculators buy commodities, or options on commodities, (crude oil is a commodity) which causes the price to go up. It's based on fears of the future. The stock market is like the most dysfunctional hysterical person you know, "the sky is falling" type of mentality, only it's magnified by a million. We have enough oil supply in this country, if allowed to develop it, to allow our economy to function and thrive, and we are discovering more oil all the time. Now we have the technology to extract oil from shale plays and there is a HUGE supply of shale oil within our country. Do not blame the oil companies, they want to supply a product and make a profit, and there is NOTHING wrong with that. It is government interference and the mass hysteria of stock speculation that is causing the prices to rise.

Always a sensible idea. Do not watch TV news if you want the truth.
Talk to someone knowledgeable about the industry if you want more of the situation from the inside. Believe it or not, people who work in the oil and gas industry want to succeed, want to find more crude oil, want to do the best job they can and DON'T want to ruin the environment while doing it. I'm not saying everyone in any given area is an altruist, just that given all elements, we all want the country to succeed so that we as individuals can succeed. (Except for the people who truly believe that our country is and always has been a bad influence on the world. <at least one of whom seem to be residing in the White House...>)
