Waaaay too big (outer diameter wise). Stick with 195/55R15s or 205/50R15 if you have the stock wheels.

tirerack

I'd just use it as an informational resource but tirerack.com can show you MANY tires in the stock size for your 08 sport (like mine) which is P195/55R15. Other sizes may well work but your speedometer might be off.

195/50/ or 205/50, especially if you plan to go lower. I run 195/50/15's no problem on after market wheels.

I've been thinking to get 175/65/15 since these are stock on 2009 base model Fit. It should work since they come with 15 inch rims.

Changing the tire size is up to you. The 09 IS different than the 08! I may be alone on this thought but i believe that the Honda engineers put a fair amount of effort into the fit's suspension geometry. Considering the "basicness" of the suspension I feel they achieved superb handling considering what they had to work with even with the stock Dunlop SP31s. I certainly believee there are better tires out there.

Yokohama AVID ENVigor (H&V)

Kumho ecowing All Season KH30

Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 (H&V)

These are some of the tires I'm considering next due to many criterion like owner ratings, wear rating, weight of tire etc. I own a MT fit which revs a bit excessively (in my opinion) at 70+ MPH which made me consider getting slightly taller tires to reduce Highway RPMs. Nonetheless to maintain the excellent suspension geometry and perfect speedometer readings I'm going to replace with the exact same size tire. If you look at the "stats" on various tires at tirerack.com you'll see some variance between brands on outside diameter even at the exact same (p195/55r15) size. The Kuhmo tire I linked to above is low rolling resistance which MIGHT help mileage. I'm a big fan of Yokohamas and like the overall reviews, tests and stats of the Avid Envigors I linked to first. Strangely I bought a complete set of wheels, tires and TPMS sensors from another fitfreaker so I'm on my second set of SP31s. Although not the best (far from it) I can go through a cloverleaf ramp at 80+ and they do fine in the snow and ice (IMO). A huge part of superb handling lies in the driver and how well he knows his "beast". Good luck on the tire search. The "perfect" tire like the "perfect" car does not exist (IMO).

As I discuss here on my Honda Fit web page, I replaced the awful Dunlop SP31 A/S tires very soon after purchasing my '08 Sport, replacing them with Honda HFP 16-inch wheels and 205/45/16 Exclaims, resulting in fantastic improvement over the Dunlops, during warmer driving months. However, the Exclaims are not a winter tire, so I am currently running the Yoko AVID ENVigor 195/55-15 on the stock 15-inch alloys and so far I am very pleased with their performance.
FWIW,
-Rod
