Gas Mileage issues

I just got an 07 Fit with 32K on it and it seems to only be getting 26-28mpg in town... It been driven pretty mildly (my wife and I'm wondering if it's needing a tune up or looked at? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to get my Fit pimpn on the gas mileage

Thanks!

1. check and adjust tyre pressure.

A tune up would be a great idea, especially the possibility of changing your air filter and possibly trying a fuel system cleaner.
Along those same lines, if you try a different gas station or fill the tank with some super to help clean out the system.
Try those three things, they should help it out, you should be getting better mileage.

^^ what they said.

How much city driving and highway driving do you do?

Is the engine a bit noisy with tapping like sound? I know Honda will say that the adjustment of valve clearance is not due until 100k but I would advice to have the valve clearance checked if those need to be adjusted. I know some members already have adjusted their valve clearance at 30K miles.

Also you can try using seafoam or an injector cleaner.

Hmm depends on ur driving. I would say if you drive in heavy traffic with lots of hills that sounds about right. I been geting around 32mpg but my tire presure is now at 35psi and its been really hot out. When I had 40psi in the tires and it was a little cooler out I was geting 36mpg.

For that little mileage, the first things I'd try are the air filter and tire pressure. Could be the fuel filter if someone got a bunch of dirt in the tank somehow but the fuel filters are supposed to last more miles than what you've got. IIRC, the filter is in the tank along with the pump.

Of course the first question should be if 26-28mpg in town is bad mpg to begin with. Is 'in town' a heavily urban drive or suburban? Constant stop and go, red lights, weather, car factors etc. I used to get 26-28mpg doing 50/50 suburban city/highway with my 08 A/T before I boosted it. I've always felt that number was too low in my case but for you it could be different.

Even with manual transmission it is pretty easy to only get 27-28 MPG if driving in an urban area in moderately heavy traffic with the A/C running.... Even with a hotted up engine I have gotten over 33.7 on the highway and rural roads and a low of 27 when driving pretty wildly on back roads.... With just intake and axle back exhaust mods I consistently got over 37 MPG with an occasional drop as low as 33.5 and high of 42 once.

I just got my fit nearly 2 weeks ago. It is an 08 Sport Model w/ Manny transmission. My first full tank, I did horrible. I was driving it like my old 2000 Civic SI and was just too excited that I got a Fit. My first tank I only got about 200 miles for 8 gallons. I did some research and considered getting a scangauge. Rather than spend $160, i took some tips from people who had bought a scangauge and how it helped them with their driving habits. What I have done to increase my gas mileage is increase the tire pressures (discount tire/american tires does it for free FYI) , switch gears around 2000rpm or slightly above, try to stay around 2000rpm when driving, and simply using neutral or laying off the gas pedal as much as possible. My last 2 fill ups, I was able to average 36mpg doing 60/40 of highway/city driving. Hope this helps for you.

I have an 08 MT and was also seeing a hit to my gas mileage with my last tank only pulling 26 miles/per. I did an oil change and cleaned my AEM filter and bam, right back to where I should be. Also, I stopped reving out my 1-3 gears which was a bad habbit I had fallen into.
