1.3 or 1.5
Hi there,
Looking to purchase my first Jazz/Fit Have a 05 Accord but my wife seems to have taken possession of that so i am looking for a small run about. And just love what you guys and gals are doing to these fits. Talk about inspiration i think I'm about to have a mid life crisis. Anyway back to the question, here in Aus we have a 1.3 Gli and a 1.5 Vti is there a lot of difference in the power.
I am looking at purchasing a used one hopefully as late as 05-06 but funds are quiet limited. Seems to be plenty 1.3s but as i live in the country and not much city driving i presume the 1.5 would be a better purchase. Also i would be looking for a manual but i keep finding a lot of Autos advertised. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil T

^ Only on the highway when compared to the manual trans 1.5L Fits. The manuals rev ~4K at 80MPH and the autos rev ~3K at 80 MPH.
What versions of the L13 and L15 is available in Australia (meaning I-DSI or VTEC)? From what I've heard and read about the I-DSI versions of the L engines is that they produce their peak torque much lower than the VTEC engines (2700-2800 RPMs opposed to 4400-4800 RPMs). Fuel effienct wise, I wouldn't have a clue. We only get the L15A VTEC engine here in North America.

The L13A-powered GD Jazzes don't really enjoy high speed or high RPM - I drive one with a manual gearbox. Go past 130 km/h on a sustained highway cruise and the engine feels asthmatic and out of its element.
The smaller engine is better in pure acceleration though. Unusually for a Honda engine, the L13A i-DSI engine makes peak torque at a low 2800 RPM. It can outdrag its 1.5L L15A VTEC brother.
That's the only difference really. The 1.3L engine is adequate for the kind of life the Jazz is likely to lead. If you don't mind cruising at 100-120 km/h (and getting there is not a chore), and you don't drive fully laden up steep roads, you won't miss the extra 18 HP of the bigger 1.5L motor.
