Oil Life Meter is finally working

When I first bought my Fit back in February, for the 2 months I drove it and put a little over 200 miles on it, the Oil Life Meter remained @ 100%. I know I didn't do much driving then, but I still expected to at least see it drop to 99%. After that I got the oil changed in mid April with synthetic blend oil. I reset the Oil Life Meter too. And now 200 miles later I see my Oil Life Meter has finally changed to 90% That's kind of weird, I wonder why it didn't change before and at what mark would be a good idea to go in for my next oil change?

It doesn't change as proportionally as you think it would. It drops by 5%'s and 10%'s at a time.

The oil monitor partially bases its assumptions of oil life on RPM recorded by the ECU, if you do a lot of highway driving you will see your oil monitor change more rapidly than someone who just putzes along in town at lower RPM. That being said, 200 miles isn't nearly enough for the oil life to show a change. I would crap a turkey if my oil life changes in that few miles! Of course i put about 200 miles on my car every day but still....

MM goes down by 10% every time, until 15% at which point it goes down by 5% and then into the negatives if you don't reset.

Mine is at 50%, with the most recent oil change some 4500 miles back... I average about 1000 miles for every 10% change.

Geez you're saying then that the reading can actually get below zero too telling you just how bad your oil is That's a good idea, even if that number can be painful to look at too. I wonder if the meter uses the time your oil has been in the engine in part of its equation too

pretty much is that it counts the amount of miles you've driven when oil life is zero and it puts it as negative.

thanks dad for the -200 miles

Have you read your car's manual? MM doesn't take time into consideration, only miles & engine load/rpm.

if you read your owner's manual, all the info you need is there.
