CEL on, but can't read codes......
My CEL came on few days ago in my '07 Fit Sport A/T with 37,000 miles on it. I went to hook up my Actron II code reader, but it will not let it link up to the car. It keeps saying link error, I want to know if these cars will not let you read the codes yourself and they force you to take it to the dealer or if there is just something wrong with my car. Other than disconnecting the negative battery cable is there any way to reset the CEL or better yet to read the code to see what it is?
Thanks

Try another code reader. The one I have wouldn't pull the codes, but my friend's and one I borrowed from advanced auto both worked. I think there's just something weird or nonstandard enough that it messes with some readers but not others.

I believe Honda uses ISO Communication Protocol
The Connector
Pin 2 - J1850 Bus+
Pin 4 - Chassis Ground
Pin 5 - Signal Ground
Pin 6 - CAN High (J-2284)
Pin 7 - ISO 9141-2 K Line
Pin 10 - J1850 Bus
Pin 14 - CAN Low (J-2284)
Pin 15 - ISO 9141-2 L Line
Pin 16 - Battery Power
J1850 VPW--The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, and 16, but not 10.
ISO 9141-2--The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 4, 5, 7, 15, and 16.
J1850 PWM--The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, 10, and 16.
Match the pins of Actron II to your OBD connectorr. Do they Match?
Did you follow the proper porcedure for connection the code reader, if not they will not hand shake and will come up with link error

Key is in II position with engine off, its weird because I've never had this problem with my scanner before it works for all of my other cars with out a problem. Maybe I'll go to Advanced to see if they can scan it and see if theirs works on the car..........
