Maybe some dirt between the strut nut and inside screw. Hold the Allen wrench the other way, opposite of strut nut turn. Can you do the left one?

I had the same problem with the whole thing turning despite having the allen key in it. It was so stuck that the allen key actually warped from the force of trying to loosen the nut. Eventually I had to use an impact gun which thankfully took it off - but it revealed the true problem, which was that the nut had crossthreaded itself and got stuck - it wouldn't go back on due to the stripped and messed up threads. Had to go get a thread repairing kit from Sears and eventually I got it working again, but hell, I definitely don't want to go through an experience like that again - I thought I wouldn't be able to drive my car w/o buying a new strut.

Use an impact gun and keep a thread repairing kit on hand. That's about all you can do at this point I'd say. Hours of trying to get the nut off by hand resulted in multiple bent allen keys.

i don't think its cross threaded or anything like that i think the nut just froze, how did you manage to get a big ass impact gun in there?

Allen key in one hand, wrench in the other, and push them toward each other.

rule of thumb is to crack that nut loose while it's still on the car.

Change out my front strut twice. Allen key to hold the shaft and a wrench to turn the nut. Maybe you stripped the allen on the shaft which is causing it to spin. In that case, use an impact gun on the nut.

get an impact gun, you can even rent one for the day, for like 20 beans
i bent my allen too, then used the impact and bingo.
