so my wife's 2007 honda fit just starting squealing last week on the driver's side. i didnt think it could have been the brakes since we only have 28k miles and we dont brake hard.

after a week, it is not squealing constantly, so i did a search and found out that a lot of people have premature wear on their inner brake pad at less than 25k!

if this is a issue that a lot of us are having, cant we get honda to try and recalibrate the rotors pistons or realign the caliper?

the outer brake pad is still like 70%.

maybe we can get a list going of people with premature brake wear on the GD3's...
ill start one.

brakes always been running strong on my 08 fit at 39K miles and just as strong on my 07 at 30k miles

 

No issues on my wife's '07 with 30k miles or my '08 with 10k miles.

 

i have owned more than 5 hondas. never have any of the brakes gone out this early.

i know honda is charging people to replace their pads and resurface with labor for $250

shouldnt this be covered under warranty when it is evident that the inner ones are eating at 3x the rate it normally is suppose to?

 

i'll check my pads next time i remove the wheels (before winter). thanks for the headsup.

 

40k on my Fit and i just changed my pads. not because i needed to but because the OEM pads scare me even during a 'mild' drive. my OEM pads still looked new, i hardly compressed the piston to fit the new HPS pads.

Geez, that scares me. I've had some minor squealing from my front right side on and off for a while, and I only have 18k miles on my 08. I'm due for a oil change and was looking forward to learning how to do it myself, but I'll be taking it into the dealer this week to have my brakes looked at. I'm not sure if I'm going crazy, but I also seem to be getting some shuddering when I brake semi-hard. I'll tell them to shove off if they want more than $100.

 

im gonna go in early tomorrow morning and see if they will replace it under warranty.

it is way too early to be changing out pads under 30k. 30k in just under 3 years. our warranty runs out 10/31/09

ill keep you guys updated with what happens...

btw: metalfit630, it started the same way with us too, shuddering when semi braking and then small squeals here and there. now its constant... FTL

 

Hopefully they fix it. My Fit's (under 15k) been having squeaking issues when I start it up in the morning, but they generally go away after less than 5 minutes of driving. Maybe it's the precipitation from the early morning weather...? I hope nothing is wrong! I'll check it sometime this week.. :/

so this morning, instead of wasting my time going to the dealership, i called instead and told them about what is happening.

basically the guy said, brakes are only covered until 12,000 miles. that he would have to charge me $50 to look at my brakes when i told him i already know and looked at it.

of course that is not good enough. although i do all my own work, i guess filling my car with the right amounts of oil, locking nuts to spec, etc is not good enough

they said they would call honda to see if they would cover it, but it is on a case by case basis. F that... i can get a new set of rotors and pads for $120 and install them myself....

weak...

 

if you have: jack stands, 19mm socket, 14mm socket, an impact screwdriver, rubber mallet, c-clamp, and some grease -- brake pads and rotors take 15-20 mins [tops] to install.

if you don't have access to these tools it would still cost less to buy them than pay the $250 dealer quote

 

That's ridiculous. How are brakes only covered up to 12k? If you buy pads/rotors, theyre usually at least 60k covered! What dealership did you go to? I'll be going to Metro Honda in Montclair, and then maybe try the Riverside dealership I bought it from. That's a bummer, I have no idea how to change out these things!

i ordered a set of rotors and pads from a hook up. we are gonna install them tomorrow, if you want in, email me at manley099@gmail.com

the rotor and pads are $140 and we can install at my house in chino

 

brakes are a normal wear item just like clutches. i had to change my brakes at 35k. no big deal.... im hard on them all the time.

 

yea but the thing is, im not hard on my brakes...

of all 6 hondas that i have had, these went out 3 times faster than my other hondas... FTL...

that is a problem... and one of my cars is an s2000 which i track and autox and they still have gone longer than my commuter fit

 

And squealing/shuddering at 18k? No, that's not right. No brakes from the factory should only last 18k. 35k, I would be more okay with. But half that is just plain silly. If I weren't planning on putting some better pads/rotors in, I'd be talking to the service manager at my dealer and bringing Honda corporate to the table.

 

if anyone wants, ill be selling my oem rotors for $15 for the fronts, 29k miles. located in chino

 

There's no way the dealerships are going to warranty a wearable part... belt, clutch, wheel bearings, brake pads/rotors. Thats how they get you...
