Transmission worries!
I have a GD8 MT and it seems like its starting to fight me to go into reverse... Im getting ready to Flush my tranny fluid. I hope that helps... Any one else have this problem?

dont drive your car read my thread gd3 tranny toast save yourself a huge repair a bolt on thr shift select rodinside the tranny is falling out i ignored the problem now i need gearsets 1 2 3 4 5 R and a diff the bolt falls ontop of the mainshaft and countershaft and destroys your transmission

put it in first gear... roll just a tad forward then put it in reverse. WHAM slides in like butter. All Hondas get like that.

That's how I used to do it in my old 94 Integra. First gear in then to reverse. I didn't have to move forward though.

yep, most MT's ive driven have had some instances where it was hard to get into rev or 1st for that matter. as posted above, it does help to roll the car forward or aft and double, even triple clutch at times.
i would also keep the issue turbo mentioned above as precaution
if you keep having problems getting into reverse and progressively worsens.

Probably because you have a GD8, it's mutating. j/k

All Honda MT's need to be put in a forward gear immediately prior to engaging Reverse. If you try going from Neutral to Reverse, you'll either be met with not being able to engage it, or a nasty, grinding noise followed by the Reverse gear engaging. Save yourself trouble and get in the habit of 1st --> R

haha you can just call it a gd3. or if you want to be more specific, an 08 gd3 or an 08 honda fit.

Technically not all hondas do that. My GD3 is the very first one I've driven that hasn't! I must have the perfect gearset lol
For reverse it actually slides a gear between two others, unlike 1-5 where it slides a hub. The ends of that gear's teeth has a beveled edge so it can self-align somewhat but for some reason on most hondas when the 5th gear synchro stops the mainshaft those teeth just wind up aligned with one of the other two gears keeping it from going in. When you shift to any other gear it rotates the mainshaft just slightly, rotating the gear so it isn't going flat edge on flat edge anymore.
