gd3 transmission is toast

hey guys i have an 08 fit sport with a mt. yesterday i lost reverse and all foreward gears so i towed it to work and pulled the trans to find that the shift select rod on the inside had come appart. a bolt on the rod backed out and landed on the counter and main shaft and wiped out gearsets 1-5 and reverse also took out the diff and final drive ring so basicly i need 2200 worth or parts on a car with 37k on it i have a picture of the parts. i work at honda as a tech and they are trying to make me re-build this pos i refuse to honda messed up and im gonna be punished i know for a fact that this will never be right. here are some pics and has anyone had this issue.

this is where a bolt goes to hold it together

i pulled the pieces out seperate i will have more pics tomorrow when i bring my camera to work

were there any symptoms prior to failure??

i hope you're able to work something out with Honda. i can't see how the damage could have been your fault.

hmmm that sounds like the same problem i had but i know its the clutch i waist it completely and it did the same thing i lost all gears hopefully it is the clutch cuz every time i push the pedal to the floor the rpms went high and the car wouldn't move so i had to let go of the pedal and tap it lil by little to catch speed again

yes it was hard to find reverse for about a day or so then i couldnt find reverse (the bolt was binding the shift lever) then i drove it for about a quarter mile and it made that money noise and pop out of gear after that the shifter felt like i was stirring chocolate milk haha

The car has a 36k mile warranty, you have 37k, and if this massive failure isn't caused by neglect or misuse I can't believe they wouldn't honor that so close to the end of the warranty. It's cheaper than losing reputation and customers.

There is a TSB resulting from a threatened class-action about the odometer advancing too quickly. Honda gave everybody 5% more miles on all warranties. You should be in warranty until at LEAST 37,800.

Man, that stinks.

On another note, I work in Dracut. Which car is yours?

That sucks if the MT just falls apart like this, kind of defeats the purpose of getting a MT to reduce transmission problems.

i think edmunds also had this problem while they were test driving it. maybe it was car and driver...one of the online car mags.

sucks... but for me, this will give me enough reason (excuse) to get another car if it happens to me.

I agree with you 100% with that. Honda has million or billions of dollars why cant they just take care of that single problem since its right passing the 36k.

You work FOR Honda and they won't even repair the car. That's BS. Like other's have said, looks to be an all out failure. Whether you are just outside of warranty or are covered, you should really nag them about it.

it is really easy to fix this problem before it starts when i install the new gearsets i am going to put red loctite on that bolt and torque the hell out of it some people on here should pull out their shift tower and check their bolt it real easy to do you unhook the 2 dhift cables , there are 4 10mm bolts on the top of the tower then it pulls right out takes less than 20 min to do just make sure you seal the tower back down with hondabond or a good rtv gasket im interested to see if anyone else has a loose bolt i am tryig to get a tsb started with honda tech line if this is a common issue then it is going to be a verry $$$$$$$$$$ issue
