Got carried away...

With the spray paint this evening I started out to just take the cluster apart and fix my half-assed TPMS light tape job. And while i had the cluster in my hands I'm looking at it going "y'know thats a whole lot of black plastic, I wonder if it would look better painted?" Well, I'll let you guys tell me what you think, I'm not sold on the striped thing yet myself so let the flames fly...

And, in case you couldn't tell what the hell I'm talking about here is a before picture

For some odd reason it looks pretty good! I guess cause we all stare everyday at the same cluster colors so having a little blue is nice! Great work, it looks professional.

I'm not sure I really care for the silver/blue/silver thing myself. I originally set out to paint the whole thing silver but I caught sight of the blue paint in the workshop and went for it. I may try variations on the theme to see which i like best, its actually really easy to do the painting since the whole thing comes apart in about ten minutes.

I think it looks really busy. Too much going on there. The cf in the back is a nice touch though, would look better if they were all going the same direction so it looks like one panel.

I like the blue that you did at times, but it looks funny because It doesnt go through the glass. Maybe you can try to make it all the way to the gauge face, with a blue that fades darker when it gets closer to the face.

Thanks all for the feed-back. I think I will take it back apart and paint the under glass portion blue as well. The metallic silver doesn't really show up at all when you are driving down the road, it just kinda looks like the black did (invisable) The blue, on the other hand, jumps out at you, especially in direct sunlight. I used white primer for the blue portion and no primer at all under the silver. I'm thinking that the silver will darken the blue paint enough to make it a slightly different shade than the rest. Of course it may look like a cobbled together POS as well, but we'll see. And I can re-do the carbon sheet so it all goes the same way as well! As far as resale goes, five minutes and some flat black Krylon and you would never know i did it.

It is actually hard to see any difference at night, I guess the blue is too dark and the silver isn't reflective enough. I'll try to get some good night pics anyhow just cause you asked...

I still like it a lot, and may even attempt the same thing one of these days.

Some people do it themselves and some people just buy the housings for a NHBP Fit from a dealership.

Yep, sure did. The stuff comes from Advance auto in a five foot by five inch wide roll. It actually does a pretty respectable job of looking like the real thing. Thanks!
