Mounting OEM sport spoiler on BASE
Hi,
I have a 07 base fit and just purchased a OEM roof spoiler. Does anyone know where exactly i should mount it? because theres no holes or areas to mount it (as its a base) and dont want to drill all over my trunk.
TIA

ok, sounds about right. im not gonna double side tape it. I dont feel like loosing it on the freeway lol.
can someone do me a favor and take pictures of its location. maybe from up top view would be the best, so i know how far toward the car or toward the window to drill

I'll take some pics in a bit, unless someone else posts some before me; but just get some painters tape, a measuring tape, a marker/pencil/pen, a center punch, hammer, and two drill bits (one the size of the hole and one smaller as a pilot hole). Please note this is theoretically speaking, I have not done this nor am I liable for any damages caused doing this.
Get a piece a tape and place parallel with the hatch gap and place another piece on the spoiler the same way.
Measure the entire width (side to side/left to right) of the spoiler then divide that number by 2. Mark it.
Measure from the two black strips on roof and divide that number. Mark it and now you should have the center for both the roof and spoiler.
Line of the marks and tape the spoiler in that place. Now it is critical for you to take your time checking to see if everything is level, plumb, and square because once you drill there is no undrilling.
While the spoiler is squared away and taped to the roof, mark the center of the holes for the spoiler with your marker and center punch it. Be sure to make a good dimple in the metal or else the drill bit may pop out and will scratch the paint around the hole.
While making sure you have a good grip, use the smaller drill bit to make a pilot hole. Be careful so you don't pierce to the metal on the opposite side or any wires, if any, inside.
Briefly put the spoiler back on to check the center again. Then use the bigger bit to drill the final holes. And after that you should be done, just hit the naked metal with some touch up paint or primer (for rust), bolt it up and you should be good to go.

your right, there is a peice of metal on the oppsite side. Thing is if I dont drill through that peice how will I be able to get the nut on the screw? I was thinking, do exactly what you said, but on the otherside (opposite metal inside of the car) use a bigger drill bit so I can access the screw from the spoiler, or am I missing something?
Edit: Added a few of the decent pictures.

That is a good question. The only thing I could think of using is self tapping screws, but I'd honestly wait for a second opinion before doing that. I was taking pictures earlier, but they came out either blurry, too dark, or too much glare.

The three in the middle there is like a retaining clip stock that the bolts lock into to. The two on the outside there is a bolt welded on top of the hole so you just have to pop the cover piece off and tighten stick the bolt through and tighten it.

Instead of drilling bigger holes on the underside for nuts, just use rubber rivnuts. It is a nut inside of a rubber sleeve, you just tread the nut on a bit, slip it through the hole and when you tighten it the rubber expands holding it firm. You can get them at Home Depot/Lowes, but heres a link so you know what I am talking about:

^ I wouldnt do that, why pay someone to do what you can do? lol, i can do alot of body work and painting and all kinds of DIY stuff. Im just trying to figure out how to do it. a shop would probably charge me over $100 do install it and do the same thing I would lol.
Thanx though guys, I got it down.
