Possible to turn off the rear interior light?

Hey everyone,

I've learned a lot from this forum in the year I've had my Fit, so thanks for that.

I have a question that's likely so minor that it's never come up before (or at least I couldn't find it using the search function): is there any way to make the rear interior light go off while the hatchback is open and the key is in the ignition?

I know that the interior lights supposedly go off after 30 minutes if the key isn't in the ignition, and you can turn off the dome light, but I don't see any way to turn off the little wall mounted light in the back. I'm going to the drive in tonight and plan to watch from back there, so I'd prefer it off and I imagine it would be better for battery life to do so rather than to just tape a piece of paper over it (which is my back up plan).

Thanks a lot!

Huh. Well that was really easy once I had enough courage to pry a little bit.

There's some egg on my face for my first post.

Thanks!

I assume you put some type of alternate lighting in the trunk?

Nope, this was just the standard little white trunk light that I was trying to get to turn off. My Fit is pretty much just stock.

Oh nice. If I make a habit of this, I'll pick one up and snap it in. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing that is a better option then pulling it each time. Which is what you have to do at car shows to show off the hatch.

(I realise this thread is ancient, just sharing my experience)

Just lock the hatch's lock. Use a pencil to mimic the way the bolt enters the lock when the hatch closes. You have to push it in until it clicks twice; the light will then switch off as if you've closed the boot.

To unlock it again you have to hold down the boot release handle AND pull out the lock manually with the pencil, by reversing the action you used to lock it. It won't just pop out by itself when you pull the handle (this caused a few seconds of utter panic the first time I tried this!)

I want to try this, but I'm unsure of which panel to pop out. The panel closest to it doesn't have any visible wires leading towards the light... T_T

Impressive search skills lol. Just pry off the transparent part that the light shines through and either take out the bulb or disconnect the cables.

Thanks, I didn't realize I could remove that part. Appreciate the tip.

Just noticed that the light in my GD is in a different place than here below, but I'd assume it works the same way

I was realy confused for a bit but yeah mine is really in a different place. Turns out the USDM Fits are like 15-17cm longer than everywhere else, which is a pretty huge difference that I assume mostly goes into the trunk.

It's the hole with the connector sticking out, I already removed the cover here.
