Trouble removing top hat
#3
And if you already have the strut assembly out of the car use an impact wrench (compressed air powered if possible) to remove the nut. Otherwise you'll have to have your friend hold the strut while you use the 6mm allen wrench and the box end to remove that mutha.

shhiiiiiittttttt, that sucks.. i remember reading that FitVic had a technique where one person would try and work the axle back in place while another person rotated the steering wheel slowly.
worst case scenario, you're going to have to remove the axle, cut the metal strap holding the dust boot in place, realign the knuckles, remount the dust boot, put a new strap on there, and reinstall.

is it the axle or the cv joint? I have popped out about 7 axles and had them back in in less than a minute each time. I rotate the rotor while pushing....one man job.

Ouch
My buddy let the axle fall out when we were doing my springs (I told him to hold it up while i put a jack under it, next thing I know he letting it hang there!!!), it took us about 3 hours to get it back in. Basically, rotate and push until it goes back in, but it's a lot harder than it sounds. Good luck.

Jack up the hub and keep it propped in the regular position and then turn and push to get the axle in. You have to keep the spindle in that position to get it in, if you were to search at Ephatch.com forums you can find pictures of how to do it.

this happened to me.
There are three bearings in there that make a triangle. If one fell out (the slip out really easy) your up a creek. This is what we had to do:
Cut the clamp on the boot, but DO NOT cut the boot at all. Make sure you use latex gloves and do NOT get any dirt in that CV joint. Once you get it popped back in go to auto zone and get a replacement clamp. DO NOT drive the car until that clamp is back on.
The clamp at auto zone was a POS so i went to Honda and they put a new on for like 20 - 30 bucks.

The bearing did pop out and I had no idea what to do. The car sat on blocks all day until i could get a family friend over who popped it back together pretty easily. It's great when you know people. The springs are coming off and the car will now stay at stock height this was all to much for me and as it's my parents car(technically) they are pissed about the whole situation.
Thanks for all of you who tried to help I will have many cosmetic modifications to come but the engine and all mechanical parts will stay intact until the extended warranty is up.

All that work and your just going to take the springs back out. That CV joint is a bitch when I upgraded form lowering springs to coilovers I took it to a shop so I dint have to deal with it. Funny thing was I mentioned it to the shop and when I picked the car up the guys said. "Your right that CV joint was a PITA, I should have listened to you and tied it up"

My buddy and I just installed a set of Stance coil-overs on his EP3 and his passenger side spindle fell out of the hub... Took us about 3 minutes to put back in. It's a shame you're not going to be able to mod the car as though it's your parents. Better luck in the future.

Its amazing what not having the right tools and a little prior research can accomplish. Swapping springs really is not a difficult job at all. I have lost count of the number of posts i have seen now with the header of "My axle is out HELP!" You have to really wrestle the hub assembly around to get that axle to pop all the way out of the tranny, god forbid manipulate the hub so much that the CV joint falls apart. For the love of modding people if you don't know what you are doing there are umpteen resources on this very forum to help you through the job, USE THEM. There, I'm done preaching now. Sorry about your luck to the OP.
