Honda oil filters question

I purchased some oil Honda Fit filters from H&A. I noticed that they had "S90783" written on them. I checked the original filter, and while it looks identical in size and shape, it has "S83232" written on it.

Should I be concerned or is this some sort of date code?

Pictures would help a lot, but if you bought it from Honda then you will be okay, all Hondas/Acuras since I believe 1988ish have used the same filter, except for the S2000 which uses a larger filter.

so are you looking at the serial number? if so you got a newer filter vs the lot that was used when your car was made...

I quess it could be the serial number, but it was the same for all six filters I purchased. I thought serial numbers were by definition unique. It very well may be a lot code.

According to H&A it is the 15400 filter, whatever that means

On their website it shows a pick of the filters, and the number S62501 can be seen, which is also different from what I listed. I think it may be a lot code...

From working in the tier one world for many years, I would say that this is a lot number. Basically a serial for a whole production run. Some of these contain date of manufacture, others are just a lot number that is tied to the ERP system that the manufacturer can look up all of the other production run info.

I don't know if filters are affected by the TREAD act for traceability of parts. This came from the high rate of tire failure on Ford Explorers in the late 90's and the inability to trace the lots. If they are you can get all of the manufacturer information for that lot by filling out a few forms and requesting the information.

yep, sounds like a lotcode or datecode... or basically your serial number for that manufacturing day/week.

The only number you really need to worry about on the filters is the PLM-AO2
